SEWING-MACHINE ATTACHMENT.
T 0 all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I,-RosA RosnN, a citizen in the .county of Pulaski and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Sewing-Machine Attachment, of which thefollowing is a specification.
This invention has reference to grinding and polishing, and more particularly to agrinding attachment to be employed in connection with rotatable wheels, such as fly wheels, of various types of machinery.
The primary object of the invention 1s to provide a wheel rim of abrasive materlal having novel means to permit the same to be readily attached and detached from a fly wheel so that the same may be rotated therewith.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing Figural illustrates a side elevation of a fly wheel having a device constructed in accordance with the present invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 illustrates a transverse sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device forming the subject matter of the present invention is shown as applied to the wheel 5, which in this instance, is the fly wheel of a sewing machine, but it is to be understood that the attachment may be made in various sizes, to adapt the same for use on various sized fly wheels.
The reference character 6 designates the removable abrasive material supporting member, which is circular in formation, to embrace the periphery of the wheel 5, the member 6 having its inner surface curved to conform to the curvature of the wheel 5, so that the member 6 may be properly supported thereon.
which being provided with the inturned end Specification of Letters Patent.

8, engaging under the shoulder 9, formed on the Wheel 5, so that the member 6 is sup; ported against displacement, in one direction. These, clamping members 7, are pro-i vided with relatively long cut-out portions 10, providing spaces ll'between the upper portions of the clamping'members and the member 6, which spaces, 'provideclearances for the spring members 12, positioned Within the spaces, and as shown, each of the spring members has one of its ends bent at right angles to the body portion thereof as at 13 and secured to the clamping member associated therewith by means of the bolts 14, the opposite end of the spring extending through the space and terminating in an enlargement 15 which enlargement contacts with the lever 16 pivoted to the element 6, as at 17. I
These levers 16, are each provided with a recess portion 18 cooperating with the enlargements 15, for holding the lever 16, forming a part of the clamping members, in a locked position or in a position to engage one side face of the wheel to which the invention is applied.
The upper portion of the element 6, is provided with the radial flanges 19, providing to move the levers 16, to the positions as indicated in dotted lines, whereupon the spring members 12 are moved upwardly, the enlargements thereof disengaging With the walls of the recesses of the lever 16.
It will thus be seen that the attachment may be moved laterally, or detached from the fly wheel, to which the same is secured.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is I v 1. In a device of the class described, in combination with a wheel, a, circular member, integral clamping members formed on the circular member and including inturned ends, pivoted levers secured to the circular member and cooperating with the inturned ends for securing the circular member to the wheel, and abrasive material supported by the circular member.
2. In combination with a wheel, a grind-' ing attachment including a circular member fitted on the periphery of the wheel, said 1110 circular member having transversely extending openings formed therein, integral clamping members extending inwardly from the circular member, a spring member extending through each of the transversely extending openings, a pivoted lever contacting With each or" the spring members, said spring members adapted to force the spring levers into engagement with the Wheel, for securing the circular member against lateral displacement, and abrasive material supported by the circular member.
3.. In combination Witha wheel, a grinding element including a circular member, clamping members: forming a part of the circular member each of said clamping members including a pivoted element, means for holdingthe pivoted element in one position,
and abrasive material supported by the circular member.
4. In combinationwith a Wheel, having shoulders formed" adjacent the periphery cular member, clamping members having inturned ends contacting with the shoulders, for securing the circular member to the Wheel, and abrasive material supported by the circular member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed' my signature in the presence of two- Witnesses.
