Description
UNITED STATES PAT noon: 3. WEAVER, or PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
IRONING-BOAJRD.
I Specification 'of Letters Patent.
' Application filed November 8, 1920. Serial'No. 422,500.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH R. l/VEAVER, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State ofPennsylvania, acitizen of the United $tates, have invented or discovered certain new and useful Improve ments in Ironing-Boards, of which improve ments the following is a specification.-
The invention described herein relates to certain improvements in ironing-boards and has for its object a construction whereby a support for one end of the boards, as the edge of a table-top or a shelf 1s firmly gripped between the end of the board and a pivotally mounted member or lever, whlch is adapted to form a portion of thesupport for the opposite end of the board, the other member of such support being formed by a strut or leg pivotally connected to the board and adapted to be adjusted along the lever as the board is being moved to the desired horizontal position. The invention is hereinafter more fully described and claimed. 7
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is an elevation showing the ironing-board in operative position; igs. 2 and 3 are transverse sections; and Fig. e is a view on an enlarged scale showing the manner of connecting the supporting strut and catch to the sleeve on the lever.
In the practice of the invention, a U- shaped clip 1 is secured to the underside of the board a short. distance from one end thereof and a section of pipe 3 is pivotally supported between the legs of the clip by a pin 6i passing through the legs of the clip, and the pipe sectipn. This pipe section is so mounted on the board that when the end of the latter is placed on a table top indicated at 5 and the free or outer end of the pipe allowed to drop, the table edge Will be firmly gripped between the board and the portion of the pipe at'the left of its pivotal point. The lever is made of such a' length that when the board is in the desired position the end of the lever will rest on the floor, and in order that the short end .ofthe lever may not bear on the underside of the table 5 before the opposite end of thelever rests on the floor, the legs of the clips 1 have a plurality of holes'for the pivot 'pin so that the position of the lever in the clip by a section of of a section of my hand.
may be-changed to suit different thicknesses of the element 5. A strut 6 is Patented ar. 1, 1921.;
pivotally connected to the underside ofthe board at a point intermediate the ends of the board and has its opposite end pivotally connected to asieeve '7 slidably mounted on the lever. When the lever is supported in a horizontal position the sleeve will slide along the lever and is locked to the lever in the position it reaches when the end of the lever rests'on the'fioor.
pipe and that its upper between the sides of a made of'a section of endshould pro ect- U-shaped strip of metal-8 to which the strut is pivotally connected by a pin 9.- It is preferred that a plurality of holes should be made through the sides of the strip 8 for the reception of the pivotal pin 9,,thereby permitting of the shifting of the point of connection of the strut with the'board. The lower end of the pipe section or strutshould passing through ears 11 on the sleeve be slotted for the reception of the end of the trigger 10, it being-held in place by apin I 7,1the.
vided with a pin 12 adapted to engage holes v 18 in the upperside of the lever.
I claim herein as my invention 1 r 1. An ironing board having in-combination a lever formed ofa section of pipepivotally connected to board, a'strut formed of a section of pipe and s5 the underside of the.
having its upper-end pivotally connectedto.
the board, a sleeve slidably mounted on the lever and a trigger adapted to engage-the tween the lever, the sleeve and trigger being pivotally' Catch adapted o engagethe lever, the sleeve and catch being pivotally connected to the f strut. V
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set,
V HUGH egwnnvnn; i i
