BARREL-FILLING STAND.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Application filed .Tune 10, 1920. Serial No. 387,993.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that l, HARRY Timm, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing .at 969 63d street, Oakland, in the county of Alameda, State of California, have invented a new and useful Barrel-Filling Stand, of
which the following is a specification in suoli full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construct and'use the same.
This invention relates to a barrel stand used for the purpose of holding barrels, @asks or driuns at the proper elevation for lilling, audits object is to produce a stand which is capable of holding either drums .or barrels as the case may be.
lt will be understood by those skilled in the art that where a number of drums, casks or barrels are filled that there will be different kinds of barrels and drums some to be iilled on the side and some to he filled through an opening in the end.
`Where the drums are to he filled-from the side, it is necessary to hold them in a fixedl position while being lled, while the stand for holding the drums is Anot suitable for.
holding barrels tobe filled from the end,
but the two stands must be eapableofimmediate and interchangeable use, since the barrels, easks and drums alternate progress to the attendant at the filling stands.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the stand as it appears when used for lling a barrel on the end.-
the complete ap- The stand comprises a holding base 1, Vwith a couple of steel wear plates 2 and 3 on its upper side. are two skids t and 5, said skids being connected by means of cross bars 6, 7 and 8. The skids are provided with a depression Patented Mar. 1, 1921.
Hinged to the base 1 9 in their tops to hold the drum steady and they have steel binding plates 10 and 11 to. prevent undue wear ofthe sloping ends. Connected with the skids and Vwith the hase are two stiff springs 12 and 13 which serve to normally hold 'the skids upright in the position shown in Fig. 3. However, i
when the drum is to be filled, the skids are turned down 'as'shown in Fi A hook 14 serves to hold the skids down when a drum is in a position to be engaged with the projecting end ofthe cross piece 7, While a foot piece 16 enables an attendant to release the hook andv allow to the position shown in Fig. 3, whenever he has to .till the short barrel.
modiiieations may be made in the construction shown in the drawings and above particularly described form, within the purview of my invention:
-' two level 1oarrel stand comprising av raised base, a pair of skids hinged to the hase, springs for holding the skids normally raised substantially at right angles to thebase, and a latch for securing the skids horizontally against the base.
`in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 20th day of March, A.'D. 1920.
HARRY TIEKE.
