Description
PATENT; OFFICEQ UNITED STATES TA'I SUZO KOSUGI, OF- SEIDO-MURA, KOBE, JAPAN.
Patented Mar. 1,1921.
Application filed June so, 1920. Serial No. 393,209.
Be it known that I, TATSUZO Kosqer, a sub'ect of the Emperor of Japan, residing in eido-mura, county of Muko, Prefecture of Kobe, Japan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Alloys, of which the following is a specificatlon.
The present invention relates to an alloy 4 comprising copper, aluminium, nickel and melting them by heating,
iron andhas for its object to obtain an alloy having a great tensile strength, not easlly susceptible of" corrosive action of air or brine. Another object is to obtain an alloy in whichblow holes-and flaws are not produced by casting and forging operations.
In the present inventlon I use copper in preponderating amount, together with aluminium, nickel and iron.
I first mix nickel and iron in a crucible, and then I add copper to the molten mass. After heating the mixture for a while I add aluminium thereto. When the whole matter is melted, the molten mass is poured into molds to form objects of any deslred shape, as in ordinary metal casting.
Preferably alloys of the quaternary type may contain from one to six per cent. iron, two. to seven per cent. nickel, seven to twelve per cent. aluminium, with the balance PPQ I The alloys prepared in this ratio give a tenslle strength as high as 48 tons per square inch, a ductility of 25%, always have a homogenelty of structure, no blow holes or flaws will be produced by any kind 'of treatmerit, such as casting, swaging, rolling, etc.', and they will never rust but permanently retain a golden luster.
This alloy, having the excellent characteristicsmentioned above, is of exceptional utillty in its employment for all kinds of Industrial and domestic purposes, being particularly .adapted to machines; cutting tools, furniture and decorative articles, and several operating and wearing parts of engines and motors.
propellers, hydraulic aving now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and m what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is 1 A11 alloy,-comprising seventy-five to'ninety per cent. copper, seven to twelve per cent. aluminium, two to seven per cent. nickel, and one to six percent. iron.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
V TATSUZO KOSUGI.
