Be it'known that I, IsIDoR J. KUsnL, a citizen of the rUnited States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, 'have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Small Banks, of
which the following is a full, clear, concise,
and'eXact description, reference'being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specication.
My invention vrelates to small banks, par-` f ticularly for use with coins, although of course they may be nsed for other purposes.y
One of the objects of my present invention is to provide a simple, practical and advantageousconstruction of small bank.
Another object of the invention is to make the bank of an attractive form and appearance.
-use as a bank will not be suspected. i Another object of the invention is to arrange'for the use of a hatshaped larticle as abank. l
Another object of the invention is to provide an article which will serve not only as a small bank, but also as a novelty for advertising or similar purposes. l
In accordance with my inventionl employ a hat-shaped article and arrange it for use as a bank. The chamber-or space forming the interior of the crown of the hat I utilize as a space for coins, bills, or the like, and I provide a closure for this space so that the contents will be maintained therein.A
This closure is preferably made removable in whole or in part so that it may serve to Vsuch for example as a soldiers hat, embodying my present invention;
Fig. 2 is a view of the under side of the same looking upwardly; Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on line 3-3 in Fig. on an enlarged scale;4
. construction.
Referring to the drawings, I show a hat- Another object of the invention is to make a bank of such form and appearancethat its chamber Figs. 4C I vand 5 are views of details of shaped article A, preferably in the yform of a soldiers hat having al crown l, a brim 2.
A closurefV is provided to close the spacel inside of the crown 1 and thus make a space or chamber 4 in which the coins and bills, etc., may be placed. This closure 3 is preferably made removable to permit the coins, bills, etc., to be taken out and also provided' with suitable ylocking means by whichit may be temporarily locked in place. To such end the closure 3 is made with a rim or flange 4 which fits snugly within the lower portion of the crown l. This fit is so snug that the closure or bottom 3 will snap into place whenl pushed in, the flange 4 being preferably provided with an annular groove 5 and the crown l with a series of small projections 6 adapted to fit into While the slot forithe coins, bills, etc.,
could be inv different places, I prefer to locate said slot in the Hoor or closure 3, such Y `the groove 5.Y The Vclosure or bottom'3 is a slot 7.being shown in the same. This slot 7 is of suilicientsize to take any desired 'coin or even any coin or'bill, and is, preferably provided witha spring 8 having a slot 9, this sprnig being forV the'purposevof permitting the coinor billvto enter the bank but preventingA its escape from thel same. This spring 8 may be secured in position by means of an eyelet or* rivet l0 with side flanges l1' to hold the spring against sidewise movement. Thus a complete bank is'formed which will be secure and effective as a small bank and may also be used as an advertising novelty or something of that sort. The appearance ofthe article'will not -betray the i fact that it is a bank if it is desired to use it as a novelty or a paper weight or something of that sort.
lAs a means for removing the closure?) I may use a key or opener 12 having a shank and also having'a prong 14 capable of eX- tending to the brim 2. Y Thus by prying or -13 adapted to fitvinto the opening orslot 7 v .y .I
pushing downwardly A'on the key 1 2 the clo ysure 8 may be worked or pried loose and removed from the crown 1,l the bank thereby being open to permit the removal of its conwith means whereby it maybe temporarily tents. It may beagain closed by simply locked in position, said means comprising pushinglandy snapping the closure 3 into .an annular rim on the closure, said Vrim place. Y f Y being provided with an annular groove and 5 It Will be understood that changes and projections on the interior of the crown v15 modiications may be made Without depart-j adapted to ft into said annular groove. ing from the spirit of the invention. In Witness whereof I hereunto subscribe What claim is: 1 l kmy name this 16th vday of FebrnarygA. D A small bank comprising a hat-shaped 1918. f 10 article having a removable closureprovided Y f ISIDOR J. KUSEL.
