FIRE BOX VALVE. APPLICATION FILED 'AUG- 19. I918.

FIRE-BOX VALVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 22, 1921.
Application filed August 19, 1918. Serial No. 250,588.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANLEY PIoLUNEK, a citizen of Poland, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire-Box Valves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in valves and particularly to types adapted to be used in connection with a water supply system, and has as its special object the provision of means whereby a fire may be extinguished or other uses made of the water supply in a convenient manner.
This object is attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompany ing drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the interior of a room or apartment and showing the arrangement of the device.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view, taken through a valve made in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same show ing the same parts in another position, and
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view, taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Arranged upon a wall 10 is a hollow rectangular casing 14, having a cover 15, held, when closed by a suitable latching device 16, the casing being designed to support a plurality of coils of a hose or flexible pipe 18,
having at its outer end a spray head 19.
Water from any convenient source is led into the apartment through the pipe 20, concealed by the wall 10, the pipe turning outwardly at 21 and then parallel with the wall, as at 22, where it enters a three-way valve 25 from which leads a pipe 26 into the casing 14, connecting with the hose 18.
Another pipe 28 extends upwardly and is turned through the wall as at 29, connecting with another concealed pipe 30, branching outwardly at 31 and connecting with a a sprinkler head 32, which may be used for a variety of purposes, such as shampooing, cleaning the hair, sprinkling clothing or other like domestic uses.
The valve 25 is shown to be rectangular, containing a chamber 35 and having openings receptive of the pipes 22, 26 and 28. Rotatably engaged in one portion of the chamber 35 is a valve plug 36, having a central chamber, 87, the plug being formed at one end with an extending stem 38, terminating in a handle bar 39 by which it may be rotated. This plug is held in operative relation to the casing 25 by a washer 40, held to the plug by a cap 42 screw-threaded into the end opposite the handle, as best shown in Fig. 4.
Extending through the walls of the valve plug 36, are passages 44, 45 and 46 which, by proper manipulation of the extending handle 39, may be arranged so as to deliver a stream of water from the inlet pipe 32 to either or both of the outlet pipes 26 or 28 in an obvious manner.
From the foregoing it will be seen that by turning the valve 36 a stream of water may be delivered through the spray head 32, for such purposes that may be desired, or through the hose 18, should a fire occur, while it is also readily possible to close both outlet openings or open both at will.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a water supply system for fire extinguishers, a partly concealed pipe conduit to supply water to said system, a rectangu-larly chambered casing interposed in said pipe conduit, an inlet on one side of said casing communicating with said water supply conduit and the chamber in said casing, a chambered, slightly tapered plug horizontally, rotatably engaged in said casing, an extending stem on one side of said plug, a washer and cap at the outer end of said stem for holding said plug in operative relation to said casing, two outlet pipes for said body rectangularly disposed to each other, one of said outlet pipes being in alinement with said inlet pipe,
said plug having two alined openings and a third opening reetangularly disposed to said first named two openings, a handle bar on said plug on the outside of said casing for rotating said plug to bring the inlet pipe in communication with one or both outlet pipes, a pipe connection for one of said outlet pipes adapted for connection with the fire extinguisher, the other being rectangularly disposed thereto with a partly concealed pipe for a sprinkler connection, substant-ially as described.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
STANLEY PIOLUNEK.
