Description
LE ROY MAZE. IMPRESSION SEAL.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. 11, 1920.

Le fay/Va e flzjjd UNETEQ sraras rarsnr OFFICE; 1
LE BOY MAZE, ors'r. Louis, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO s. e. ADAMS sTAMr Ann STATIONERY COMPANY, or s'r, LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION or rs-f SOURI.
To all/whom it may concern:
' Be it known that'I, Ln ROY MAzn, a citizen of the United'States, residing at St. Louis, Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Impressmn- Seals, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art-to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being'had to the accompanying drawings,
forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to aseal of the type ordinarily used by notaries and like'offi'cials in impressing the seals of legaldocuments and'the' like, the principal objects of my invention being to provide a relatively strong and substantial seal'that is comparatively light in weight-and havlng essential parts that are connected to the frame of the seal whereby they may be folded so that the entire structure while not in use occupies very little space, thereby enabling it to be conveniently carried in the pocket.
Further objects of my invention are, to generally improve upon and simplify the construction of those types of seals known as pocket seals; and, further, to provide a construction that is capable of being easlly and cheaply manufactured and which can be readily manipulated to produce an impression on a legal document or seal, and, further to provide simple and efficient means for conveniently and firmly holding the seal while it is being manipulated.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan'view of a seal of my improved construction.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of a seal.
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of a seal and showing parts thereof folded into position so as to bring the entire structure into a relatively small compass.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a practical embodiment of my invention, 10 designates the base portion of the frame of the seal, said base portion being in the form of a flat plate or disk and of such size as to receive the male portion 11 of the die and the latter nvrriy ussron-sniin Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb. 22, Application filedOctober 11, 1920. Serial 110. 416,194. i
being preferably secured directly to the up per surface of said plate or disk. Positioned a short distance above the plate that forms a part of the one-piece frame and one end of this block is connected-to the 'or disk 10 is a horizontally disposed block 12 reinforced by means of a centrallyarranged I rib such as lat. This'constructionprovides a strong and substantially one piece frame for the seal and carried by said frame are the va rious operating parts of the structure.
and the underside of memberl are depending lugs 15, the same being p'erforatedhori- Formed integral with the plate 'or disk 1O Arranged for operation'through a vertically disposed aperture that is formed through block 12 is a short screw rod 18, the
lower end of which carries a die 19 that co,-'
operates with die 11 and said die 19 is guided in its movements toward and away from die 11 by means of pins 20 which latter are seated in die 19 and operate through suitably located apertures in block 12.
Hinged in any suitable manner to the upper end of screw rod 18 is an elongated packed into a comparatively small space,
while in storage or transit.
The frame or body of my improved seal or that portion comprising the parts '10, 12
and l i may be either cast, forged or stamped durable',- is capable of being easily and cheaply produced, and the parts that are used in manipulating the seal to produce an impression are arranged so as to be folded against the body of the seal with the result 1 that the entire device occupies comparatively little space and can, therefore, be
conveniently carried in the pocket.
It will be readily understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction oil-the various parts of my improved seal can be made and substituted for those herein shown and. described, without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention: 1; An impression seal comprising a body,
a diefixed thereto, a member arranged for movement toward and away from the fixed die, a die carried by said movable member, a manipulating member hinged to the movable member, and a manipulating member hinged to the body of the die,
2. In an impression seal, abody, a die fixed thereupon, a screw rod arranged for movement through a part of the body, a die carried by said screw rod and adaptedto cooperate with the fixed die, and a manipulating member hinged to said body. 7
3. In an impression seal, a body, a die fixed thereupon, a screwrod arranged for movement through a part of the body, a die carried by said screw rod and adapted to; 00- operate with the fixed die, and a manipulating member hinged to said screw rod.
4. In an impression seal, a body, a die fixed thereupon, a screw rod arranged for movement through a part of the body, a die carried by said screw rod and adapted to cooperate with the fixed die, a manipulating member hinged to the body of thedie, and
a manipulating member hinged to said screw rod. p r
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature this 29th day of Se tember, 1920.
' LE R Y MAZE.
