Description

UNITED. STATES PATENT FFHCE.
CARBON-REMOVER.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that I, ZIMMOND J. OLAF, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Malvern, Chester county, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Carbon-Removers, of which thelfollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to compounds or compositions of matter employed to remove carbon from the cylinders of internal combustion engines. While my improved carbon remover is particularly adapted for use for loosening carbon from the cylinders, pistons, valves, spark plugs and other parts of an internal combustion engine, it may be employed under any conditions where deposits of carbon interfere with the proper operation of any mechanical device or moving part clogged by such deposit.
The important object of my invention is to -provide a simple and eflicient mixture, compound, or composition of matter, that will serve to loosen the carbon and render it friable, and permit it to be blown out with the exhaust after it has been permitted to remain in contact with the carbon deposit for a period of a few hours.
The material forming the subject of my invention maybe introduced into the cylinders at any time after the motor has been stopped, and in practice I usually place a small portion of the compound or composition of matter in the cylinders at night, and after remaining in the same over night,
for instance, the loose carbon separated by the action of my improved compound may fie blown out with the exhaust when the engine is started next day.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15,1921.
Application filed August 17, 1917. Serial No. 186,702.
1 mg proportions:
Carbolic acid 2 parts, Alcohol 3 parts, Ammonia water 26 2 parts.
The several ingredients may be of the usual commercial character, purchasable in the open market, and for the alcohol I may use wood alcohol. Aqua ammonia of 26 is preferably employed as giving satisfac tory results, although ammonia water of dif ferent strengths may be successfully emp Iii use, I place bout one ounce of my improved carbon remover in each cylinder, and the same may be introduced through the spark plug opening; the latter being removed for the purpose and then replaced. If desired, the spark plug may be dipped in the mixture so that any carbon attached thereto may be loosened and subsequently removed.
I claim:
A compound or composition of matter for removing carbon from gas engine cylinders and the like, comprising a mixture of carbolic acid, substantially two parts; a low boiling alcohol, substantially three parts; and ammonia, substantially two parts.
