  • This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in clothes wringers and more particularly to a feeding device therefor, the object being to provide a feeding device which can be readily attached to the ordinary construction of wringer now in use, whereby the clothes will be fed to the wringer rolls, the feeding device forming a guard so as to prevent the fingers of the user from being injured by being drawn between the pressure rolls.

FEEDING DEVICE FOR CLOTHES-WRINGERS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REAP. WRIGHT, a. citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feeding Devices for Clothes- Wringers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in clothes wringers and more particularly to a feeding device therefor, the object being to provide a feeding device which can be readily attached to the ordinary construction of wringer now in use, whereby the clothes will be fed to the wringer rolls, the feeding device forming a guard so as to prevent the fingers of the user from being injured by being drawn between the pressure rolls.
Another object of my invention is to provide a feeding device in which a pair of feed rolls are disposed in advance of the pressure rolls, means being provided for driving one of the feed rolls from one of the pressure rolls so that when the clothes are placed on the feed roll they'will be carried toward the pressure rolls by the rotation thereof.
Another and further object of the invention is to provide a feeding device with a feed board in connection with the feed rollers for carrying the clothes from the feed rolls to the pressure rolls whereby a construction is provided with feed rolls spaced from the pressure rolls so as to make it almost impossible for the operator to be injured in feeding clothes to the wringer.
Another and still further object of the invention is to provide a feeding device having two feed rolls, one of said rolls being driven from the pressure roll, the other feed roll being movably mounted and spaced from the first mentioned feed roll in order to provide a feeding space, said movable roll bearing on the clothes and being rotated thereby as the clothes are fed to the pressure rolls.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the clothes wringer showing the application of my improved construction of feeding device thereto.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section taken on line 22 of Fig. I; and
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through a portion of a wringer showing a portion of my feeding device in position thereon.

In the drawing 1 indicates a wringer frame which is provided with the usual superposed rolls 2 and 3 and pressure means 4. The pressure rolls 2 and 3 are carried by shafts 5 and 6 mounted in suitable bearings arranged in the frame of the wringer, said shafts being preferably provided with meshing gears not shown, inclosed by gear casings so as to cause the rolls to be rotated when one of the shafts is driven by any suitable means. The above description is given so that the operation of my improved construction of feeding device can be readily understood when applied thereto.
My improved construction of feeding device comprises a pair of brackets 7 and 8 connected together by a feed board 9 the ends of which are formed curved. to conform with the pressure rolls and the feed rolls, which will be later described. The brackets 7 and 8 are provided with keyhole slots 10 through which are adapted to pass headed members 11 carried by the side bars of the wringer frame in such a manner that the brackets can be quickly placed in position on the frame or detached therefrom. In the drawing I have shown these brackets attached to one side of the frame, and it is of course understood that they can be attached to either side by providing both sides of the side bars with headed members.
The brackets 7 and 8 are provided with laterally extended portions 7 8 in which are revolubly mounted feed rolls 12 and 13, the lower feed roll 12 being provided with a shaft 12 revolubly mounted in the laterally extending portions.
The laterally extending portions of the brackets are provided with stud shafts 14 on which are revolubly mounted frictional driving disks 15 which engage the, shaft 5 of the pressure roll 2 and the shaft 12' of the feed roll 12 in such a manner that the feed roll 12 will be driven in the same direction that the pressure roll 5 is driven in order to cause the goods placed thereon to be carried inwardly toward the pressure rolls over the feed board 9 into the bite of the pressure rolls 2 and 3.
The upper feed roll 13 is carried by a shaft 13 revolubly and slidably mounted in oblique slots 16 formed in the lateral extensions 7 8' the lower end of the slots terminating at such a point that the upper feed will be held spaced from the lower feed roll and out of vertical alinement therewith, which provides means for allowing the clothes to be readily placed on the lower rotati'ng feed roll, and as they are forced inwardly the movably mounted feed roll bears upon the goods in such a manner as'to cause the goods to be fed evenly over the feed board to the pressure rolls.
The feed board 9 is preferabl arranged on an incline and, as herein s own, connected to the. brackets 7 and 8 by members 9 which are provided with curved guide portions 9 so as to prevent the clothes from working toward the brackets in passing over the feed board. In order to arrange the feed board on an incliney as shown, the feed rollers 12 and 13 are mounted in aplane above the pressure rolls, but I do not wish to limit myself to any particular arrangement of mounting the feed board and feed rollers in respect to the pressure rolls. The curved ends of the feed board are slightly spaced from the feed roller 12 and pressure roll 2 so that the goods for the feed roller will be stripped therefrom and carried by this1 feed board into the bite of the pressure ro s.
From the foregoing description it will be seen. that I have provided a feeding device composed of a pair of brackets which can bedetachably mounted on a wringer frame, having a feed board and a pair of revolubly mounted feed rollers, one of said feed rollers having a driving connection with one of the pressure rolls so as to cause the same to rotate therewith in order to feed the clothes to the pressure roll.
While I have shown and described the r0- tatlng feed roller driven by frictional disks, contacting with the shaft of the feed roller and the shaft of one of the pressure rolls, I do not wish to limit myself to this particular arrangement, as the frictional driving members can be so disposed that they will contact with theroll and roller in order to cause the feed roller to be rotated as the pressure rolls are driven, nor do I wish to l1m1t myself to the particular manner of mountlng the movably mounted feed roller,
as minor changes can be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. In combination with a clothes wringer frame having pressure rolls, of brackets detachably mounted on the frame of said wringer, a feed roller revolubly mounted in said brackets, a feed board connecting said brackets disposed between said feed roller and pressure rolls, and frictional disks revolubly mounted in said brackets contacting with the shafts of said feed roller and the shaft of one of said pressure rolls.
2. The combination with a clothes wringer having pressure rolls, of a feed roller disposed to one side of said pressure rolls, a feed board disposed between said pressure rolls and said feed roller, a second feed roller disposed above the first mentioned feed roller and spaced therefrom and capabl'e of moving toward and away therefrom, and frictional disks contacting with one of said pressure rolls and one of said feed rollers.
3. The combination with a clothes wringer having pressure rolls, of a pair of spaced feed rollers disposedto one side thereof, one of said feed rollers being movably mounted in respectto the other feed roller, an inclined board disposed between said feed rollers and said pressure rolls having curved guides mounted thereon and frictional disks disposed between said pressure rolls and said feed rollers and contacting with the shaft of one of said feed rollers and the shaft of one of said pressure rolls for causing one of said feed rollers to be rotated in unison with one of said pressure rolls.
4. The combination with a clothes wringer having pressure rolls, of a pair of brackets mounted on the frame of said Wringer, a feed board connecting said brackets, a pair of spaced feed rollers revolubly mounted in said brackets, one of said feed rollers being movably mounted in respect. to the other feed roller and frictional disks carried by said brackets contacting with the shaft of one of said feed rollers and the shaft of one of said pressure rolls for causing s'aid feed roller to be rotated with said pressure rolls.
5. The combination with a clothes wringer having pressure rolls, of headed members carried 'by said frame, brackets provided with keyhole shaped slots mounted in said headed members, a feed board connecting said brackets having curved ends extending over one of said feed rollers and one of said pressure rolls, and means for driving one of saifilfeed rollers from one of said pressure ro s.
