Description

narrsn 1:.
YATES JOHN E. GLIOTT, OF MOBILE, ALABAMA.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN ELMER Gmorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mobile, in the county of Mobile and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compositions for Removing Iron Rust From Fabrics, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to compositions of matter, and particularly to compositions de signed for removing stains of iron rust from fabric.
The general object of my invention is to provide a composition, which will hereafter be described, which will remove iron rust stains from fabric without injuring the most delicate fabric, and which will operate to remove the stains in a very short period of time.
My improved composition consists of:-
Hydrofiuoric acid 1 oz. Borax 5 oz. Distilled water 12 oz.
The ingredients in the above amounts will make approximately one quart of the rust remover. The hydrofluoric acid acts to remove the rust, while the borax cleans the fabric, and the distilled water assists in 1'61 leasing or removing the rust without injuring the fabric.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1921.
Application filed February 8, 1919. Serial No. 275,892.
lhe fabric which has been stained with iron rust is to be dampened with the composition and then after allowing a few minutes to elapse for the action of the composition, the fabric is to be rinsed in clear water, whereupon the iron rust or like spot will immediately disappear and be washed away; The composition is very cheap and will not injure the most delicate fabrics, and has been found to be thoroughly effective in practice.
I claim 1. A. composition for removing iron rust from fabric, formed by mixing hydrofluoric acid with borax in the presence of water, the borax being in excess of the chemical equivalent in the composition.
2. A composition for removing iron rust from fabric, formed by mixing one part of borax with two parts of hydrofluoric acid in the presence of water.
3. A composition for removing iron rust from fabric, formed by mixing two parts of hydrofluoric acid with one part of borax in 24 parts of water.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN E. GLIOTT.
