Description

I 1. MULLALY. Machines for Melting Snow..- NO. 136,854. PatentedMar.ch18,1373' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIoE.
J OHN MULLAL Y, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR MELTING SNOW.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,854, dated Marth 18, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MULLALY, of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Melting Snow; and I do hereby declare the followi n g to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use Referring to the drawing, A shows a snow machine constructed with my improvements, having a frame, A, mounted upon tractionwheels B B, which may be flanged, if desired, so as to adapt them to railways. 0 represents a furnace and boiler for generating steam. There may, if desirable, be a steam-drum located above the boiler, or the steam used in melting or for propulsion may be taken directly from the boiler. D represents a revolving brush or brushes located beneath boiler, and arranged to sweep the snow up an inclined plane or chute, E, into a funnel-shaped receptacle, F, which is formed, as shown, with double walls f f, the latter being perforated, or provided with open projections, as shown.
Communication is had between the receptacle F and the boiler or drum by means ofpipes c, which convey the steam into the chamber between the walls f f, whence it is discharged upon the snow collected in the funnel F, and the snow, being thereby rapidly melted, flows off in water, the discharge-pipe being straight or curved, as desired.
Claim.
I claim- A machine for melting snow having a brush or brushes, D, and a receptacle ,for receiving the snow and melting the same, substantially as shown and set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of February, 1873.
JOHN MULLALY.
