Be it known that I, WVILLIAM F. BLAKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county oi Lucas and State oi Ohio. have invented a new and useful Bell and Ball Toy, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to bell an d ball toys in which the same are attached to handle; and the objects of my invention are, first to provide a toy for small children which is light, simple. and amusing; and second, to provide a toy having a handle to which is attached a bell and a ball so they cannot be easily lost.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a view of the toy as a whole; Fig. 2, a detail View showing the method. oi? attaching the bell and ball to the handle; and Fig. 3, detail view of the bell showing the sounding slots.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to Fig. 1, the figure 1 indicates the handle made of wood or other material and 2 a spherical bell attached to the end of handle 1. 3 shows the collets through which the body of a pin. or thus hell 2 is held in alinement with the handle, 4t is an opening in side of the bell for inserting anchor 6 which is placed to one side of the axis of the bell to facilitate movement, thereby causing the bell to ring. 5 is an endless elastic band with one end looped over anchor 6 and the other over the e e of iii one side of the hollow rubber ball 7 thus connecting the ball with handle 1. The swivel eye device 9 has the prongs 12 lllSCllQt l in the ball 7 and crossed at such an angle that when tension is placed on the projecting eye 9 the prongs 12 are forced to press outward and upward on the sides of the ball 7 and so cannot be pulled out. The loose balls 8 act as a clapper in hell 2. The sounding slots 10 are shown in Fig. 8, also one of the collet-s 3; the sleeve 11 of the other collet nail passes and swivel device 9 which is insertedis inserted at the intersection of the slots 10 and so keeps hell 2 from sliding out of position by way of the sounding slots 10; thus collets 3 keep bell 2 in vertical alinement with handle 1, yet allow the bell to rotate and chime.
In the operation of my invention, a child grasps the handle 1 and bounces the ball 7 on the ground, wall, floor, chair, etc. The elastic band 5 will stretch and bring the ball back, while the clapper 8 rings or chimes against the sides of bell 2, thus amusing the child. This toy can be used as a rattle or the child can whirl the handle and as the ball is attached at one side of the axis of the hell it will readily whirl around describing a wheel or circle.
Having thus described I claim as new and desire to secure by ters Patent, is:
1. In a bell and ball toy, the combination of a handle with a bell rotatably attached to the handle and an anchor projecting from the periphery oil: the bell and at one side of the axis of the hell with an endless elastic band looped over said anchor and the other end of said band looped over a swivel eye in a hollow rubber ball to cause the bell to rotate on the handle.
2. A toy of the class described, comprising a handle, a bell rotatably mounted on said. handle, a flexible member pivot-ally secured at one end to said bell eccentric to the axis thereof, andv a ball suspended by said flexible member and adapted to swing the latter to impart rotative movement to said bell.
3. A toy oi: the class described comprising a handle, a hell rotatably mounted on said handle, an anchorage member engaged with. said bell eccentric to the axis thereof, an endless elastic band engaged with said an chorage member, and. a ball carried by said band and adapted to swing therewith to rotate said bell.
