Description

T. @Love-R. CONSTRUCTION 0F COIN CARRIERS FR COIN FREED-MECHANISM.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. 24, 1919.
Patented Feb. 1,1921.
be operated by either a penny or a half-` UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS GLOVER, OF EDMONTON, LONDON, ENGLAND.
CONSTRUCTION OF COIN-CARRIERS FOR COIN-EREEI') MECHANISM.
Application led October 24, 1919.
To all whom t may concern:
Be 1t known that I, THOMAS Gnovnn, a subgect of the King of Great Britain, residing at Edmonton, London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Construction of Coin-Carriers for Coin-.Freed Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of coin carrier for coin freed mechanism con structed from two slotted cups arranged with the open ends next to each other one being fixed to the shaft carrying the operating handle and the other loosely arranged on the shaft and connected with the operating mechanism, the shaft beingcranked or cut away within the cups to permit the coin to rest within the cups, preferably with one portion of the edge exposed.
Now the object of this invention is to construct snch cups in snch a way that they may penny, or by two different sized coins, say one Shilling and a sixpence, the mechanism being operated only according to the value of the coin.
My invention will be clearly understood from the following description aided by the annexed drawings in which- Y Figure l is a perspective elevation of the two cups and shaft, the cups being detached.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the cups and shaft i in `assembled relation, and showing in broken lines' the handle and one form of gear and also the relative positions of the two coins.
For the purpose of this invention I construct the cups A, B of two different diam eters and in the larger A, I cut two coin slots C, D at an angle of 90 to each other while in the smaller cup B, I cut four coin slots E, each at an angle of 90Q to the next succeeding slot. In the larger cup A I bend in the outer corner F of a wall of one slot to approximately the outer diameter of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1, 1921.
serial No. 332,971.
but in the construction according to my invention for say the penny the cups A, B are revolved a one half revolution while for the halfpenny the larger cup A is revolved a one half revolution and the smaller cup B is only revolved a one quarter revolution, so that the mechanism for a halfpenny is only moved half the amount of the movement for the penny.
On dropping in the penny after the two cups A, B have been properly positioned to receive the coin, when the handle G is turned the coin is gripped between the walls of the slots C, E in the two cups A, B and all are turned a half revolution. The movement is then stopped as usual and the coin discharn'ed. The cup B has a plurality of notches I-lin its periphery adjacent to the slots E in which a spring pawl H engages when the cup is in position to discharge the coin. The handle shaft I and the larger cup A are now turned in the opposite direction in order that the slots C and E in the two cups A, B may coincideto receive a fresh coin, and the action will be the same if a penny is dropped in, but if a halfpenny, e
which is smaller in diameter than the eX- ternal diameter of the cup A is dropped in it finds a position fully within the larger cup A, and this being free from action on the halfpenny at that position, will, on being revolved, travel around a quarter revolution without acting on the coin and then the bent corner F will engage the halfpennv which will be gripped by the two cups A, B and the two cups will revolve another quarter of the revolution before the coin is discharged so that the larger cup will revolve its full distance while the smaller cup will only be revolved a quarter of a revolu tion and the mechanism only moved accordingly.
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Coin carriers for coin "freed mechanism comprising two cups of different diameters, an operating shaft carried by the larger cup, the other cup surrounding the shaft and connected with the coin feed mechaslots arranged at an angle of ninety degrees to one another and having the corner of the Wall of one slot bent toward the axis of the cup to coincide with the periphery of the smaller cup, the smaller cup having four slots each at an angle of ninety degrees to the next succeeing slot.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witmesses.
THOMAS GLOVER Witnesses:
P. E. MATTOCKS, FRED KURTSBINT.
