Be it known that I, GEORGE HENRY WHEARY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trunk Flatiron-Holders, of which the following is a description, reference being-had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specication.

This invention relates to improvements in trunk flatiron holders.

An electric or otherlatiron is now considered a necessary and a very desirable adjunct to a wardrobe trunk and irons now yalmost universally formpart of the outlit of the traveling public topermitthe easy and expeditious pressing and ironingof wearing apparel soiledor wrinkled during traveling.

Heretofore it has been the usual custom to wrap the iron in a piece of paper and place it in any convenient corner of the trunk but it has been found from experience that unless the iron was firmly maintained in its position that considerable damage would be done `to the trunk and its contents during transportation due to the comparatively heavy weight of the iron. Furthermore the iron would at times work out of its covering and soil any light colored apparel it would contact with.

It is one of the objects of the present invention to overcome the before mentioned objectionable features and provide a trunk flatiron holder which will securely,firmly and removably maintain the iron in position in the trunk. f

A further object of the invention is to provide a trunk latiron holder which may be easily mounted within one of the drawers of a wardrobe trunk and from which the iron may be easily and quickly removed when desired.v l

A further object of theinvention is to provide a trunk flatiron holder in which the holder may be removed from the trunk with the iron and the iron then removed from or replaced in the holder.

A further object of the invention is `to provide a trunk atiron holder which is of simple construction, is strong and durable and is well adapted for the purpose de-V scribed. r

lVith the above and-other objectsv in view the invention consists of the improved trunk flatiron holder and its parts and comi binations as set forth in the claims and all .section of a wardrobe trunk, the View also indicating by dotted lines the wardrobe section;

Referring to the drawing the numeral 8 indicates the wardrobe section, 9 the drawer section, l() and 10 the drawers within the drawer section and 11 'the top cover of a wardrobe trunk. The trunk is divided centrally verticallyto form the two sections and the wardrobe section is formed with an open top which is closed by the top cover 11.

One of the drawers 10 is usually divided by a partition 12 to form a hat compartment 13 and a smaller compartment 14 which is usually utilized for holding small articles. Advantage is taken of'this small compartment to mount the' latiron holder 15 therein.` f

The flatiron holder 15 comprises a base board 16 havingan arched holding frame 17 projecting upwardly therefrom which is provided with a clamping screw 18 in the upper portion thereof. A recess or pocket 19 shaped to approximately fit the working face of the ironis formed in the base board tol prevent lateral movement of the iron when in clamped position, Aand the clamping screw 18 at itsinner end pivota'lly carries a clamping ymemberor jaw18 which bears againstthe `handle QO'of lthe flatiron 21.' Byy placing the flatiron beneath the arched holding frame 17 with its working face positioned within the recess or pocket 19 of the board and turning the clamping screw to cause its jawl to engage the handle of the iron, the iron may be firmly clamped to the base board 16.

In order to removably and firmly secure f the flatiron holder within the trunk drawer `*a strip of material 22 is fastened to one of the vertical walls of the drawer or other trunk part to form a shoulder 22 beneath which one of the end portions 23 of the base board 16 is positioned. The opposite end portion 24 of the base board is provided with a spring latch 25 of ordinary construction which engages the latch plate 26 mounted on the opposite drawer wall or trunk part and removably locks the base board to the drawer. The space in the {iatiron drawer compartment around the iron holder and the iron permits the electric connecting wires to be placed therein.

In the modified form shown in Figs. l and 5 the pocket or recess 19 is omitted and in lieu thereof a spring member 27 is provided which is formed of a strip of spring material bent to conform to the shape of the sides of the iron and fastened medially of its length to the base board by an angle plate 28. The free ends 29 of the member 27 are provided with elongated openings 30 through which extends a transverse offset guide plate 3l. This guide plate 31 is fastened at its opposite ends to the base board and serves to limit the spreading apart of the free ends 29 of the member 27. The said free ends are spread apart by the insertion of the iron therebetween and will accommodate irons of varying sizes and will hold the bottom portion of the iron firmly in position. The holding frame used in connection with the part 27 is the same as before described.

While the llatiron shown is of the electrically heated type it is to be understood that irons of other types may be used.

l/Vhat I claim as my invention is:

l. A trunk iatiron holder, comprising a base member, a holding frame mounted thereon, means for securing a flatiron be tween the holding frame and the base member, and means for securing the base member to a trunk part. n v y 2. A trunk flatiron holder, comprising a base member, a holding frame mounted thereon, means for removably clamping a iiatiron between the holding frame and the base member, and means for detachably connecting the base member to a trunk part.

3. A trunk flatiron holder, comprising a base member having means for receiving the ybottom portion of a latiron, an arched frame mounted on the base member, a clamping means Carried by the arched frame for clamping the flatiron in the receiving portion of the base member, and means for detachably connecting the base member to a trunk part.

t. A trunk `flatiron holder, comprising a base member having a recessed portion for receiving the bottom portion of a Hatiron, an arched frame mounted on the base member and extending over the recessed portion, a clamping screw threaded through the arched frame and having a clamping jaw on its inner end clamping the flatiron in the recessed portion of the base member, and means for detachably connecting the base member to a trunk part.

5. The combination with a trunk drawer having a shouldered portion and a locking plate, a iatiron holder therefor, comprising a fiat base member, a holding frame mounted thereon, means carried by the holding frame for clamping a flatiron to the base member, and a locking member mounted on the base member having a portion which engages the locking plate, one portion of said base member extending beneath the shouldered portion of the trunk drawer.

6. The combination with a trunk drawer having a shouldered portion and a locking plate, a flatiron holder therefor, comprising a fiat base member adapted to have one end portion extend beneath the drawer shoulder,

an arched frame mounted on the base memv ber, a clamping screw threaded through the arched frame and having a clamping jaw on its inner end for clamping the flatiron to the base member, and a locking member mounted on the base member and having a portion which engages the locking plate.v

The combination with a trunk drawer having a shouldered portion and a locking plate, a iiatiron holder therefor, comprising a flat base member having a recessed portion and adapted to have one end portion extend beneath the drawer shoulder, an arched frame mounted on the base member, a clamping screw threaded through the arched frame and having a clamping jaw on its inner end for clamping the flatiron to the recessed portion of the base member, and a locking member mounted on the base member and having a portion which engages the locking plate.
