DOOR-OPERATING MECHANISM.

To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ABRAHAM TRAUBE, va citizen. of the United States of America, residing at Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State ofNew-York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door Operating Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in door operating mechanism, the object of the invention being to provide means adapted to be placed in the path of a vehicle when the same is being driven into or out of the garage or barn whereby the weight of the" vehicle will cause thedoorof the garage or barn to be automatically opened or closed.
A further object of the invention is to provide door operating mechanism of the character set forth which may readily be adjusted for operation by vehicles of different weights.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction. and combination of parts which will be more fully described hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The drawing accompanying and forming part of this specificationis a sectional side view of one embodiment of my improved means for setting the door opening and closing mechanism in operation, the upper portion of the drawing being intended to illustrate diagrammatically the door and its opening and closing mechanism.
Referring to the drawing, 2 designates a suitable casing or'box which is adapted to be let into the sidewalk or the driveway to a garage, said box having a floating cover 3 adapted to lie flush with the surface of the sidewalk or driveway and to be depressed within the box under the weight of a vehicle passing thereover, the side walls of the box being provided with an inwardly extending flange 4 which is adapted to limit the down-- ward movement of the cover 3. The cover is supported flush with the top edge of the box by a plurality of helical springs 5, these springs being preferably spaced at equal distances apart around the interior of the box, it being. understood of course that the box may be of any desired form in cross-section. The bottom of the box, as well as the cover 3, may be provided with a plurality of lugs or rods extending inwardly a short distance for maintaining the springs against sidewise shifting. One of the features of the present invention is that the depressibility of the cover 3' may readily be changed. For
instance, it is contemplated that for ordinary use the springs supporting the cover will be capable of resisting depression by any weight less than two Should it be desired, however, to render the cover 3 depressible by a vehicle of less Weight, it is necessary only to lift the cover out ofthe box and remove a sufficient number of the springs so'that the-cover will be depressed by the weight of the vehicle to which it is desired to adapt the apparatus.
