Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK W. CLAUSSEN, OF MARS BLUFF, SOUTH CAROLINA.
IMPROVEMENT 1N BRREL-SUPPoR-TS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. `136,416, dated March 4, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, FREDERICK W. CLAUS- sEN, oi' Mars Bluff, in the county of Marion and State of South Carolina, have invented a new and Improved Barrel-Support, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is avertical section of my invention on line c c, Fig. 2, showing the barrel in upright and inclined positions. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a device by which barrels placed in stores, warerooins, and closets may easily betipped overinto an inclined position, so that not only the bottom parts of the same are easily reached but also space economized, as the barrels may be placed out of the way under the counters, shelves, or other fixtures. My invention consists of an upright piece ot' wood pivoted horizontally to transverse ears, and carrying under right angles a strong cross-piece', supplied nt one end by a vertical support to rest upon when placed in horizontal position. The pieces are so fitted that the bottom of a barrel may be placed on them and follow the motion of the same.
In the drawing, A represents the ioor of a store or other pla-ce, to which the barrel-supporter is attached.
Two rounded ears, B, are properly fastened to iloor A, and supplied with holes for the admission of the pivots of the upright connecting-piece (l. The upper part of C is cut out near the ears B to correspond with the width of the barrels placed therein. Into a central recess of piece G is firmly screwed or .otherA wise attached at right angles the strong crosspiece D, also rounded olf at both ends for the reception of the barrel, and ofthe same length as the ylower inside diameter of the bottom thereof. The cross-piece D is so adjusted over piece C that the shorter part thereof, when tipped forward, carries the full barrel, inclined in such a manner that the center ot' gravity does not fall outside of the base of the same. At the longer end of cross-piece D is connected in suitable manner, rectangularly, the supporting-piece E, which rests vertically on door A, when the barrel is placed upright on the cross-pieces 0 and D. The barrel may easily be turned up or down on this support, resting firmly thereon.
Counters, shelves, or other convenient lixtures may be placed around or above the b arrels, giving still ready and easy access tothe contents of the same.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent- 'lhe combination of upright piece C pivoted topears B, with cross-piece D and support E, arranged as and for the purpose described.
