Description

S. P. HANSEN.
NECKTIE HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED AUG-3|. I920.
1,363,783. Patented Dec. 28,1920.
A-rTy,
UNITED STATES SOPHUS PETER HANSEN, OF COPENHAGEN, DENMARK.
NECKTIE-HOLDER.
Application filed August 31, 1920.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SoPHUs PETER HAN- SEN, residing at Copenhagen, Denmark, have invented certain new and useful Improve" ments in Necktie-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a necktie holder to be used for long neckties of the kind known as four-in-hand neckties, and the invention has for its object partly to hold the knot up against the collar, so that the collarbutton will be covered, partly to prevent the knot from altering its shape, and partly to help the knot to become fuller and to be less exposed to wear.
The invention is illustrated on the drawing, where- Figure 1 shows a longitudinal section of the necktie holder.
Fig. 2 shows a rear view of the same.
Fig. 3 shows the same seen from below and Fig. A is a perspective View showing the necktie holder with the necktie in position.
The necktie holder consists of a funnelshaped rearwardly open plate a of suitable material. The bottommost portion of the plate, preferably reinforced as shown on the drawing, is shaped as a flat tie-gripping member, the cooperating side walls of which are marked 0 and f, respectively, while d indicates the space between said side walls. The extreme end of one of the side walls, for instance f, may be fitted with a clip 9 adapted to cooperate with the bent end 6 of the prong c. The front ends of the side members are slightly rounded off and united by a small quantity of solder, as shown at h, Figs. 1 and 4.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided a necktie holder formed of a single piece of metal so bent upon itself as to form an enlarged tie-forming portion at its upper end and a pair of tie-gripping elements at its lower end, and that the tiegripping elements extend transversely of the width of the tie-forming portion. In other words, the tie-forming portion tapers to its apex at the lower end of the tie holder, while the side walls taper to their apices at the upper end of the holder, so that the cooperating tie-gripping portions extend transversely of the tie-forming portion, as will be clear from a comparison of Figs. 1 and 2.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 28, 1920.
Serial No. 407,256.
The necktie holder is used as shown in F 1g. 4;. The narrow end of the necktie is pulled through the slot d, so that the prongs c and f grip the necktie and hold it in position. The necktie is then placed as shown in Fig. 4, the plate a being placed in such a manner that it covers the collar-button, and the edges Z) face the wearer. Now the necktie is tied in usual manner, its wider end being wound one and a half turns about the plate a, up behind the plate, over the upper edge thereof and down along the front face of the plate behind the outer winding of the necktie.
The clip 9, which is not absolutely necessary, however, may be swung behind the bent fork end 6, in order to tighten the fork against the necktie.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A necktie holder, comprising a plate bent upon itself to form an enlarged tieforming portion at its upper end and a pair of tie-gripping elements at its lower end, said tie-gripping elements extending perpendicularly to the width of said tieforming portion.
2. A necktie holder, comprising a plate bent upon itself to form a tapered portion having its apex at the lower end and tapered side walls having their apices at the upper end of the holder, the wide ends of said side walls extending in a direction perpendicular to the wide end of the tie-forming portion.
3. A necktie holder, comprising a plate bent upon itself to form an enlarged tieforming portion at its upper end and a pair of tie-gripping elements at its lower end, said tie-gripping elements extending perpendicularly to the width of said tie-forming portion and having flat cooperating side walls for engaging a necktie.
4. A necktie holder, comprising a plate bent upon itself to form a tie-forming element having, its greatest width at the upper end of the holder and a pair of side walls having their greatest width at the lower end of the holder and extending perpendicularly to the width of the tie-forming ele ment, said side walls being in parallel relation at their lower ends for engaging a tie therebetween.
5. A necktie holder, comprising a plate bent upon itself to form a tie-forming element having its greatest Width at the upper end of the holder and a pair of side Walls having their greatest width at the lower end of the holder and extending perpendieularly to the Width of the tie-forming element, said side Walls being in parallel relation at their lower ends for engaging a tie therebetween, and a clip secured to one of said side Walls and adapted to engage the other thereby to retain the side Walls in tie-grip 10 ping relation.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
