To all whom t 'may concern.'

Be it known that l, Gnonon KUsHNnn, a citizen oit' Czecho-Slovakia, residing at Avella, in the county of lvashington, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washboilers, ot which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wash boilers and has particular reference to the provision of improved means for supporting the clothes above the bottom oi the boiler in such manner as to insure efficient boiling of the clothes by aiding in passage of the soapy water to and through the clothes.

Briefly described, the invention resides in the provision of a foraminous orpertorated tray for supporting the clothes in spaced relation to the bottom of a boiler, and longitudinal downwardly diverging veins for deiiecting the water as it rises when boiled so as to liberate the steam and insure thorough boiling of the clothes, the tray beingpivotally mounted so as to tilt laterally under varying steam pressures at opposite sides thereof to 'further assist in the efficiency of the boiling operation.

With the above general objects in view and others that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement ot parts hereinafter more fully described and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which like ret erence characters indicate similar parts throughout the several views.

Referring more in detail to the several views, the present invention employs the Y ii,

usual form of boiler or receptacle 5 having a cover 6 which is removable by use of the handles 7 thereon, the receptacle 5 being also provided with end handles S to enable the same to be lifted or carried from place to pl ace as necessary.

Projecting inwardly from the opposite ends oi the receptacle 5 are a. pair of alined U-shaped bearings 9 arranged to pivotally receive the end pivot pins l0 rigidly provided on the clothes supporting tray 11 whereby said tray is supported a suitable distance above the bottom oi' thereceptacle 5.

In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the tray l1 is formed of sheet metal with numerous pertorations l2 therein for allowing free boiling of the water and passage of the same and steam upwardly through the clothes placed upon the tray..

it will, of course, be understood that the tray may be constructed oi" any foraminous material which will serve the purpose, but the sheet metal form shown is preferred and the main or plate portion of the tray is provided with end depending flanges 13 which act as deilectors and serve to strengthen the tray.

A plurality of downwardly diverging tins la are rigid with and depend from the tray said fins being downwardly and outwardly inclined at opposite sides of the longitudinal axis of the tray and being arranged parallel to said aXis as well as oi gradually di-creasino widths `from each side to the center for obtaining better results than if the iins were oi uniform widths.

lln operation, the clothes are placed upon the tray ll and water is introduced within the receptacle 5 in the usual manner after which the cover 6 is placed on the receptacle V5 and the boiler is then subjected to heat for causing boiling of the water. When the water boils, the same rises and strikes the iins la as well as the flanges 13 so as to liberate the steam and to pass with the latter upwardly through the perfor-ations l2 so as to thoroughly permeate the clothes, At times, the steam pressure is greater one side than the other and thereby causing tiltv ing of the tray for liberating this excessive steam and performing the boiling operation generally in a better wa 1.

In view t ie foregoing description, it is believed that the construction andoperation of the invention will be readily apparent to those skilled 1n the art.

l. VIn combination with aboiler receptacle having opposed bearings projecting hinwardly from the opposite ends thereof, a foraminous tray for supporting clothes above the bottom of said reoeptaole'and having pivot pinsjournaled inY said bearings, whereby a lateral tilting of the tray is permitted upon excessive steam generation at either sideA of the'tray, and longitudinally disposed fins vdepending from the tray7 said fins projecting at an outward incline atopposite sides of the longitudinal center of the tray.

2. In combination with a boiler receptacle having Yopposed bearings Vprojecting inwardly from the opposite ends thereof, a

foraminous tray for supporting clothes above the bottom `of said receptacle and having pivot pins j ournaled in said bearings, whereby a lateral tilting of the tray is permitted upon excessive steam generation at either side of the tray, and longitudinally disposed fins depending from the tray, said fins projecting at an outward incline at opposite sides of the longitudinal center of the tray and being of gradually decreasing widths from the sides to the center of said tray.
