MOLD (3F LINE-CASTING IVIACI'L-IINES.
Application filed December 13, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS DORNETH, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing at Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in trickle of Line-Casting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to a mold for line casting machines, adjustable in length and width, providing a simple arrangement for different adjustments. @ne of the longitudinal walls of the mold according to this invention is formed by a number of adjustable single bodies of various thickness, disposed side by side. Gonsequently, it is possible to put (at the beginning or at any other part of the line) one or more single type from a larger font of larger face or of heavier face. Furthermore, the whole mold, by lowering single bodies, may be divided into two or more parts, down to single type casting, and a shortened portion of the line, if it be desired so, may be transferred to the upper, or middle, or lower end of the mold.
In the accompanying drawings T have shown my invention in a form of construction which is usually employed.
Figure l is a plan view partly in longitudinal section.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line A-B in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view of a single body, and
Fig. 4: is a section on the line C-D in Fig. l.
The mold consists of a til-formed frame 1, the two arms of which are tightly connected by a stem 2, so that they can resist pressure. A fixed piece 3 constituting the lower wall of the mold is fastened by screws to the bottom of the frame 1. On one side of the mold, and closely connected with the frame 1, there is a clamp l, perfectly filling the space between the portions 3 and 2. On the other side, a similar clamp 5 is adjustably arranged. Between these two clamps l and 5 a certain number or variously thicl: single parts 6 is arranged which are vertically adjustable with relation to the piece 3. The parts 4-, 5 and 6 are provided with a rectangular slit (Figs. 2 and 8) through which a bar 7 is extended. This bar 2 serves to guide the single bodies 6, in order Specification of Letters Fatent.
the other screws 9.

that these may form a common plane both in front and in the rear. The bar 7 is provided with two pins 8 at one end, bearing against the clamp 5 and pressing the parts 5 and 6 tightly together, when, by means 01" three screws 9, a pressure is exerted against the bar 7. Below these three screws 9 pressing against the bar "7, there is another screw 9, bearing immediately against the clamp 5, and having the same purpose as Thereby it is possible either to bring all the parts 6 in an equal distance from the fixed piece 8, by which an even line would be obtained, or as indicated in Fig. 1, the first or the last part 6 may be raised a certain measure. Hereby space would have been made, for instance, for a larger capital letter at the beginning of the line. The same would be the case for" an enlargement of the line becoming necessary perhaps in the middle or at any other place of it.
Furthermore by lowering single bodies 6 down to the fixed piece 3 the length of the line may, it it be so desired, be shortened, or moved toward the right or to the left hand side. Furthermore by suitably adjusting the bodies 6, it is possible to cast two, three or more lines at the same time, or to drive the division to that point that even single type characters may be cast, it it is liked.
y raising or lowering the bodies 6 to different heights, it will be possible to produce every thickness of lines which may be desired.
Having described my invention, what T claim and wish to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a mold for line casting machines the combination of a frame, a series of single bodies of various thickness, disposed side by side, and a movable bar guiding the single bodies and means pressing the bar to press said bodies against one side of the mold and thereby hold the bodies pressed tightly together.
Tn testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JULIUS DORNETH.
Witnesses:
