W. N. COBB.
CRAP DICE FRAME.
APPLICATION FILED APR.10,1920.
133,6 Patented Dec. 28,, 1920.,
WINDSOR 1\T. COBB, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
CRAP-DICE FRAME.
Application filed April 10,
' is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in crap-dice frames, and it consists in the combinations, constructions, and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of.my invention is to provide a frame adapted to hold a pair of dice together and which is provided With means for attaching the device to a watchchain or the like, whereby the dice so held will be effectively displayed.
A further object of my invention s to provide a device of the type described in WhlCh ornamental dice having precious stones embedded therein can be effectively displayed.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described that is ornamental in appearance and thoroughly practical commercially.
Other objects and advantages Wlll appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, inwhich- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device showing a pair of dice therein,
Fig. 2 is a front view of the device,
Fig. 3 is a side 'view of the same,
Fig. 4 is a section along the line 44 of Fig. 2.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a box-like compartment having squareparallel solid ends 1 and 2 rigidly secured to or formed integrally with connecting rectangular side members 3, 4, and 5 respectlvely. The ends 1 and 2, and the sides 3, 4 and 5 may all be stamped from or formed of a single sheet of metal if desired. A 11d 6 1s hingedly secured to one edge of the side member 5. In the embodiment of the invention illus trated in the accompanying drawings, n hinge effecting such a connection 1s formed by cutting away spaced apart portionsalong one edge of the side member 5, which is formed as shown. The remaining portions along the edge of the side member 5 are bent to form loops 7. Portions located along the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 28, 1926.
1920, Serial No. 372,851.
edge of the lid 6 opposite the loops 7 are also cut away and'the remaining portions along the edge are bent to form loops 8.
It will be observed that the openings through the loops 7 and 8 will register. A pm 9 is inserted therethrough to hingedly ls3ecur5e the lid 6 to the edge of the side mem- An extension 10, which is formed integrally with the lid 6, is bent downwardly, then inwardly, and finally outwardly to form a fastening member. The side member 4 is .formed adjacent its edge intermediate the length thereof to provide an abutment 11 that is in position to be engaged by the extension'or fastening member 10 when the lid 6 is in its closed position. Consequently, the lid 6 is maintained in its closed position until the fastening member 10 is pressed upwardly and outwardly.
The sides 3, 4 and 5, and the lid 6 are each apertured by a air of openings 12 which are arranged in t e manner clearly shown in the accompanying drawings. It is to be particularly noted that each of the openings 12 is of sufiicicnt extent to permit the spots 14 of dice 13 being effectively displayed when the latter are placed within the frame in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings.
A chain 15 is secured to a link 16. The latter is rigidly fastened to the end 1 as by welding. The chain 15 may be attached to a watch-chain or the like, whereby the device serves as a watch charm or a like ornament.
From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. Dice formed of metals and materials having their surfaces attractive in appearance or having precious stones embedded therein, are in common and general use. When such dice are placed within a frame embodying my invention, a very attractive and ornamental combination 'results. The device will hold the dice securely together so that the same will not become lost and will, at the same time, permit the device being worn as an ornament.
I claim:
1. A crap-dice frame comprising parallel end panels, apertured panels rigidly connected with the end panels to form three sides of the frame, an apertured lid hinged to one of the side panels to form the fourth side of the frame when in its closed posi- 'tion, and fastening means secured to said solid end panels, panels rigidly connected with the end panels to form three sides of the frame, one of said side panels, being bent to define a lateral abutment adjacent one edge intermediate the length thereof, each of said side panels being formed with a pair of apertures, each aperture occupying substantially half of the area of the side panel, a
lid hingedly secured along the edge of the side panel parallel to the side panel carrying the laterally extending abutment, said lid being formed With a lateral extension adapted to engage with said abutment to normally maintain said lid in its closed 0- sition, whereby the same forms the fourth side of the frame said lid being also formed with a pair of apertures, each of said apertures occupying substantially one-half the area of the lid, and a fastening member secured to the upper surface of one of said end panels, said fastening member being adapted for engagement With a Watch-chain or the like.
