DRIER.
Application filed October 16, 1919.
To all colmi/t t may concern llc it lrnown that l, Timmer H. lionne, a citizen oi' the United States, residing' at Joliet, in the county ot Till and State of illinois. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Driers. oi which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to driers. particularly designed for drying fruit-s7 grain or analogous material, and an object oi" the invention is to provide a drier constructed ot mesh work or screen, which will permit the iree circulation oi air therethrough to :tacilitate the evaporating of the moisture in the substance being dried.
More specifically, the invention comprehends the provision of a drierv including a suitable supporting structure having a top and rear wall rigidly attached thereto, and having end walls hingedly connected to the supporting structure, and a iront wall or side formed of a pair of hingedly connected doors, and also to provide bottom formed of mesh work .or screen, which is hingedly connected to the supporting structure and maybe dropped downwardly to facilitate the cleaning of the drier.
A still further object of the invention is to provide article supporting racks Jfor the drier which will support the material to be dried in such manner as to prevent the sagging or warping oi' the supporting surfaces of the rack.
Other objects oi' the invention will appear in thel following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speciication, and in which drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved drier.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section :through the drier.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through the drier, and
Fig. lis a longitudinal vertical section through the drier.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, wherein like characters indicate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, the drier includes a main sup-A porting structure,l comprising a plurality of supporting legs 5, which have a cover 6 attached to their upper ends. This cover 6 is constructed of a rectangular frame 7 ot angle iron, which has a screen netting or mesh Work 8 attached thereto, forming a Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Bec. 21, 1920. Serial No. 331,122.
top for the drier which will permit the free circulation of air therethrough. The legs are braced, intermediate their ends by a plurality oi angle iron braces 9, extending from one leo' to the lo Jr. D
othe drier is hingedly connected, at its rear edge as shown at 11, to the angled bar 9 which extends across the rear end ofthe .i drier. rlhe iorward free edge oi the bottom 10 of the drier is supported7 by a suitableV other and .the bottom.
The end doors 14a like the bottom 10 are formed of trainee 17 which carry sheets of toraminons materials or screens 1S to permit circulation of air longitudinally through the drier. The forward pant of the drier is braced intermediate its ends by a vertical brace 18 which carries a button or suitable fastener 19 employed'for holding the door sections 2O and 21 closed. These door sections 20 and 21 which make the front side of the housing of the drier include frames 22, which are hingedly connected as shown at 23 to the forward corner portion 5,` and which carry foraminous panels 2li. A plurality of racks 25. are positioned within the drier at vertically spaced intervals, and each or" these racks comprise end supporting angled irons 26., to which a plurality oi angled irons 27 are attached, at spaced intervals. The angled irons 27 extend throughout the entire length of the racks and are spaced laterally7 the upper edges of their vertical portions providing supports for the screen ytrays 28, which carry or support the fruits, grain or analogous articles to be dried. These raclis are at tached to the supporting' body of the drier. in any suitable manner, such as by bolts 29, which entend through the end angle bars 2G at each rack and the corner leg 5.
les clearly shown in the drawings, the longitudinally extending angle iron braces 277 are spaced rat relatively short intervals lll@ bottom therefor, a plurality of racks supported in horizontal spaced relation Within said drier body, said Vsupporting racks comprising a plurality of angle irons, and a sheet of screen uponsaid angle iron.
2. In a drier, the combination of a supporting structure including a plurality of supporting legs, a oraminous top attached tothe upper ends of said legs, ends for theV drier hingedly connected to certain of the legs and comprising roraminous panels, means for holding said hinged ends in closed position, va front side for said drier coinprising a plurality of hingedly mounted sections each comprising a frame and a iioraminous panel, and a plurality of trays supported Within said drier.
3. 'n a drier, Vthe combination of a supporting structure including a plurality of supporting legs, a foraminous top attached to theupper ends of said legs, ends for the drier hingedly connected to certain of the legs and rcomprising itoraminous panels, means for holdingV said hinged ends in closed position, a front side for said drier comprising a plurality of hingedly mounted sections each comprising a frame and a foraminous panel, a plurality ot racks supported Within said drier,'each ot' said racks com prising end angled bars, a plurality of supporting angled bars attached to said end angled bars and extending longitudinally of the trays, and sheets of screens mounted upon the upper edges of said longitudinally extending bracing angled bars.
il. In a drier, the combinationof a supporting structure including a plurality of supporting legs, a foraminous top attached to the upper ends of said legs, ends for the drier hingedly connected to certain of the legs and comprising oraminous panels, means for holding said hinged ends in closed position, a Jfront side for said drier comprising a plurality of hingedly mounted sections each comprising a trame and a foraminous panel, a plurality of racks supported Within said drier, each of said racks comprising end angled bars, a plurality ot supporting angled bars attached to said end angled bars and extending longitudinally of the trays, and sheets oi' screens mounted upon the upper edges ot'said longitudinally extending bracing angled bars, a bottom for said drier comprising a frame Work hingedly connected at its rear edge to the supporting structure of the drier, a ioraminous panel carried by said trame, and means engaging the forward edge of said bettom to retain it in a horizontal bottom forming position, and to permit the bottom to be swung downwardly upon its hinged support for eleaning. Y
5. ln a drier, the combination `oit a'sup-V porting structure, foramineus top carried by said supporting structure, oramineus ends tor the drier hingedly connected te the supporting structure, means for maintaining said ends in end forming position, the front side of said drier composed et a plurality of liingedly connected sections each come prising a frameV Werk and a transparent panel, means ier holding said front hinged sections closed, a bottom comprising a iframe, means hingedly connecting said frame at its rear vedge to said supporting structure, a forami'nous panel carried by said trame, and a snap carried by the supporting structure for engaging the forward edge of the bottomvto hold it in a hori-V zontal position.
