UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAX SKOL'NIK, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 21, 1920.
Application filed March 29, 1920. Serial No. 369,658.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX SKOLNIK a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Combined Carriages and Coasters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a childs combined carriage and coaster and an object is to pro vide a device of this kind which will be attractive in appearance and pleasing to the child and which may be pushed along by the child, who "may coast when the carriage is moving along under its own momentum. Another object is to make the device still more pleasing by providing a seat for carrying a doll or another child, and by providing a rocking horse or toy figure for the front.
The full objects and advantages of my invention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof and the novel features embodied in my inventive idea will be particularly set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a view in side elevation. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a view in section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a view in section on the line 44 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a view in section. on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the construction shown in the drawings numerals 10 and 12 designate two longitudinal side frame members which are held together by a transverse plate 14 at their front ends and a platform 16 at their rear ends. The frame is supported at its rear by wheels 18 and 20 mounted upon a shaft 22 attached to the side members '10 and 12 and at its front is supported by wheels 24 and 26 secured by nuts 27 upon a shaft 28 having a crank 30 at its center, this shaft being also attached to the side members 10 and 12. Above the side members 10 and 12 are two shorter longitudinal members 32 and 34 carried by a pair of front supports 36 and a number of rear supports 40 and 42. These supports are preferably made of metal strips bent into the proper shape and reinforced by braces 44 and 46. Members 32 and 34 carry a seat 48, a back 50, and sides 52 and 54 which serve to carry either a doll or a child. Attached to the members 32 and 34 are upwardly and rearwardly extending handle members 56 and 58 provided with hand grips 60 and 62 at their rear ends. The handle members may be conveniently formed from metal tubing. Secured to the transverse member 14 are two longitudinal members 64 and 66 spaced a slight distance from each other and constitute an auxiliary frame. Between these members is a rocking platform 68 mounted upon a pivot pin 70. Secured to the rear portion of the rocking member 68 is a metal strap 72 formed into a loop at its rear end which surrounds the crank 30. Secured to the rocking member 68 is a base member 74 which carries a toy figure 76 which may represent a horse or other animal. Secured to the front of the members 64 and 66 is bumper 78 extending slightly beyond the object 7 6.
The operation and advantages .of my invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description. The seat is adapted to carry a dollor, if the device is of sufficient size, may carry a child. The device may be pushed along by a child who grasps the hand grips and who may coast by standing upon the platform at the rear. When the device is moved along the ground or floor the horse or other object is caused to rock.
I claim:
1.. A childs carriage comprising a main frame, wheels upon which said frame is supported, a crank on the shaft of the front wheels, a seat carried by said frame, an auxiliary frame secured to the front of said main frame, a rocking platform mounted on said auxiliary frame, a toy figure mounted on said platform, an operating connection between said platform and said crank, and a bumper secured to the front of said auxiliary frame and extending beyond said toy figure.
2. A childs carriage comprising a main frame, wheels upon which said frame is supported, a crank on the shaft of the front wheels, a seat carried by the said frame, handles extending from the rear of said seat, a coasting platform at the rear of said frame, an auxiliary frame secured to the front of said main frame, a rocking platform mounted on said auxiliary frame, a toy figure mounted on said platform, and an operating connection between said platform and said crank.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
MAX SKOLNIK.
