BEDSTEAED ATTACHMENT.
To'aZZ whomfz'zf may concern. 7
Be it known that L'Annnn'r B. CAL owAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ackerman, in the county of Choctaw and State of Mississippn'have invented certain new and useful Improvements inBedstead Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bedsteads and the primary object of the invention is to provide an improved means for attaching the side rails or pieces to the head and foot sections of a bedstead.
Another object of the invention is to provide a means for locking the side rails in engagement with the head and foot pieces so as to prevent accidental displacement thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved means for quickly and efficiently connecting the side rails to the head and foot pieces of a bed so as to permit the convenient and quick assembling thereof.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved device of the above character, which is durable and ehicient in use, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described,
claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof in which- Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a. bedstead showing the improved device applied thereto, i
Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the device removed from the bedstead,
Fig. 3 is a detail horizontal section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail. wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 generally indicates the attachment, which is adapted to be secured to the head 2. of a bedstead 3. While the device has only been shown used in connection with the head piece, it is to be understood that it is to be used for the foot piece as well. The device 1 includes a metallic casing 4: having a side wall 5, an
' Specification of Letters Patent. 'Patented N Application filedFebruary 20, 1920. Serial No. 360,223.
The retaining flange 11 is substantially triangular in configuration and the lower end thereof is provided with a pair of spaced apertured lugs 18, which are adapted to be embraced by the apertured ears 14 of the operating lever 15. A suitable pivot pin '16 extends through the alined openings spaced grooves 18 for the reception of said ears. 1
In operation of the improved device the side rails 10 are slid 1n the housing 4: while positions the sharpened end 17 thereof outward of the retaining flanges and after the end piece is in position, the lever 15 is swung downwardly which will throw the inner sharpened edges of the ears 14 into the grooves and thus effectively lock the same in position against movement.
In practice, I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most eflicient and practical; yet realizing the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required the cam lever is in its raised position which 7 without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention as set forth.
Vhat is claimed is In a device of the class described the combination with a bedstead including head and foot pieces, and side rails, of a housing secured to the inner surface of the head and foot pieces formed from a single blank including a side Wall, upper and lower walls formed on the side wall, a rear Wall formed on the side wall, outwardly extending ears formed on the upper and lower Walls, said ears and rear Wall having openings formed therein for the reception of fastening elements, retaining flanges carried by the upper and lower walls and a cam lever carried by one'of said retaining flanges and adapted to be brought into and out of engagement with the siderails, as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses. V
