OIL-BURNER,
Application filed December 29, 1919.
y To all whom it may concern i Waterloo,
that I, EDWIN DARBY, a United States, residing at in the county of Blackhawk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Burners, of which the followingY is a specification.
This invention relates to a liquid fuel vaporizer andheater designed for use in connection with stoves, of both heating and cooking type, farm tank heaters and other forms of stove or furnace structure.
As the invention relates to the construction of the burner, vaporizing coil, and connected parts, I have not shown or described the stove or tank heater, as the construction of these would depend on the make of stove or tank heater employed, and is outside of the present invention.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a plan view partly in section.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line.r 2`2 of Fig. l.
In the drawing l is a suitable base having the form of a shallow tray and providing a drip pan 2. The base is centrally cut out as at 3, this cut out portion being inclosed'by a vertical wall Il., spaced from the edge of Be it known citizen of the l the opening 3, and which forms the inner are preferably three in number.
wall of the drip pan 2. Radial ribs 5 eX- tend transversely across the drip pan and These ribs are higher than the side walls of the pan and at their inner ends are cut out to form shoulders 6, said shoulders being in the horizontalV plane of the drip pan walls, including the` inner wall 4. A dome or cap 7, downwardly is supported on the 6. Resting opening 3 is a double walled burner 8, the inner wall being perforated as at 8S, the air space between the walls being closed at the bottom and open at the top. The burner extends upwardly into the dome 7 opening shoulders and affords communication through theV opening 3 with the dome. As the dome is elevated by the shoulders 6 it also communi` cates with the drip pan 2.
An oil feedV pipe 9 leads from any suitable source of supply and is bent in the formV of coils 9a about the dome 7, the coils resting on the ribs 5, and theppipe Yis then bent Specification of Letters Patent.
inner wall being cut out, a on the marginal portions of the Y portions,
' pan,` and a supply pipe Serial No. 348,253.
downwardly and upwardly into alinement with the opening 3 terminating in a discharge orifice 9b. Where it passes through the drip pan it is inclosed by a boss l0. A supplemental feed pipe l1 depends over the drip pan 2 and supplies said pan with oil for ignition purposes, the pan being supplied with the usual asbestos wick, or with any suitable oil absorbing material.
A depending flange 12 forms a support for the supply pipe at a point below the burner. l
A heat retaining the coils 9a.
Suitable valves, not shown, are employed in the pipes 9 and l1, and are located at any convenient point, and a supply reservoir, not shown, may be located where most convenient, or as considerations of safety may dictate.
The oil vaporized in the coils will be discharged through the orice 9b into the burner 8 which also serves as a mixer and the flames will spread through the dome and plate 13 is placed over out from under its lower edge.
What I claim is V:-
l. An oil burner comprising a base forming' a drip pan, and having a central opening, radial ribs extending across said pan, the pan having outer and inner walls, a
downwardly open dome resting on said ribs, a burner mounted on the base in alinement with the opening and extending upwardly into said dome, and a supply pipe, a portion of said pipe being coiled about the dome and resting on said ribs, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. An oil burner comprising a base forming a drip pan with inner and outer walls, the central portion of the base within the burner mounted on the marginal portions of said cut out portion of the base, and retained in position by the inner drip pan wall, transverse ribs extending from wall to wall of the pan and having shoulders formed on their inner end a dome mounted on said shoulders, means for supplying oil to the drip adapted to discharge an oil vapor into said burner through the cut out portion of the base, a portion of said pipe being coiled about the dome and supported by said ribs.
3. In an oil burner, a drip pan, a dome supported above said pan, said pan having Patented ov. 30, 1920. I
