Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may camera,
Be it known that I, JOHN Gnonen CARnw- GIBSON, a subject of the King of Great Brltain and Ireland, and residing at 11 Hornton Court, Kensington High street, London, W. 8, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements relating to Wire-Gutters, of which the following is a specification.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation with the said levers and the cutting blades closed, and Fig. 3 is a plan looking on thetop of the said wire cutter.

Fig. 5 is a detached sectional view of Fig. 3, and Fig. 6 is an end view of the hand grip or handle.
In this said application of the invention, each of the operating levers A is preferably made up from a pair of steel plates or strips A and A which are riveted in close contact or provided with a distance piece at the shank or handle end, while at the fulcrum end they are connected by a bolt B and nut C, or otherwise, at such a distance apart as to provide for the insertion between them of the blades or cutting elements D and D. Alternatively, instead of a pair of steel plates a single plate folded on itself in any convenient manner may be employed.
The said blades or cutting elements D and D are stamped or otherwise produced from steel capable of effective hardening and tempering. At one end E they are made to a circular or boss-like form with a central aperture F to receive the bolt G or its equivalent on which they are both pivoted; such bolt G passes through elongated apertures H in a pair of steel side plates J and J 'and through circular washers J 2 and J 3 forming distance pieces and stops to regulate the closing of the levers. At the opposite end the blades D and D have an aperture K therethrough to receive the respective pins L' by which they are pivotally connected orlinkedwith the short arms of the aforesaid levers, said blades havlng projections L which act as stops to regulate the opening of the levers.
The bolts B or the equivalent serving. as the fulcra for the respective operating levers pass through and are carried by the steel side plates J and J A The shank. ends ofthe operating levers A are provided with wood or othergrips or handles M. Each handle preferably has a slot N'formed at its inner side toreceive its lever shank N, and is retained in position by cross rivets O or their equivalent. Near their outer extremities the handles M have an aperture P for the attachment ofa lanyar In the use of the wire cutters the blades or cutting elements D andD are opened or moved apart by an opening-out movement of the duplex levers. l/Vith the wire between them the blades D and Dare caused to cut by a closing movement of the duplex levers A, the shorter ends of which constitute a toggle system whereby the blades are forced together with a gradually increasing leverage sufficient to enable them to effectually cut their way through the wire. The elongated apertures N in the side plates J and J provide the necessary freedom of movement for the bolt B forming the common pivot connection for the blades or cutting elements D and D. V p
The form and arrangement of the blades or cutting elements D and D and the other parts of the wire cutters may be varied to meet varying services or requirements.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A wire cutter of the character described comprising a frame composed of side plates, operating levers, and blades pivoted to the inner ends of the operating levers and having the common axis carried by the plates which are adapted to allow the blades to have motion toward each other as well as motion in the direction of their of the operating levers and having the common axis carried by the plates which are adapted to allow the blades to have motion toward each other as well as motion in the direction of their length.
3. A wire cutter of the character described comprising a frame composed of slotted side plates, operating levers pivoted to said plates, and blades pivoted to the inner ends of the operating levers and having the common axis carried by the plates which allow the blades to move toward each other as well as in the direction of their length.
4, A wire cutter of the character described comprising a frame composed of side plates, operating levers, blades pivoted to the inner ends of the operating levers and having the common axis carried by the plates which allow the blades to have motion toward each other as well as motion in the direction of their length, and projections upon the blades to act as stops to regulate the opening of the operating levers.
5. A wire cutter of the character described comprising a frame composed of side plates, operating levers constituted by combined sheet metal parts, and blades pivoted to the inner ends of the operating levers and having the common axis carried by the side plates which are adapted to allow the blades to have motion toward each other as well as motion in the direction of their length.
6. A, 'wire cutter of the character described comprising a frame composed of side plates, operating levers constituted by combined sheet metal parts, hand grips channeled so, as to fix to and combine with the operating levers, and blades pivoted to the inner ends of the operating levers and having the common axis carried by the side plates which are adapted to allow the blades to have motion toward each other as well as motion in the direction of their length.
