7 '0 all whom it may concern "Be it known that I, ARCHIE DoUTHI'r, a citizen of the United .States, residing at Kansas Cit in the county of Jackson and State of issouri have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Shaving- Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in shaving cabinets.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide a shaving cabinet having a mirror and arranged to be moved to different positions with respect to a window or other source of light so as to enable the operator to arrange the mirror in the positions best ada ted for use.

i y invention provides further novel shelf supporting means which permits the shelf to be swung to a vertical position when not in use.

My invention provides still further a case having a cover comprising a mirror arranged to be swung to different positions.

My invention provides still further a device of the kind described which may be applied to any window casing, which is simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, durable, not liable to get out of order and which affords many convenlences.

The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.

Figure 1 is a perspective view, partly broken away, showing my improvement applied to an ordinary window.

1 designates the sill of an ordinary window, to the forward edge of which is plvoted by means of hinges 2 a shelf 3, which is adapted to be swung from the vertical position shown in Fig. 1 to the horizontal position shown in Fig. 2.

A supporting member having a vertical portion 4 is disposed at the rear of the shelf 3, said vertical portion being pivoted on a vertical axis in two bearing members 5 and 6, which are respectively secured to the window casing 7, below the sill 1 and a base board 8, such as is usually provided.

The supporting member is provided with a lateral arm 9 having at its outer end a vertical tubular extension 10. The arm 9 is adapted to be swun from a position parallel with the wall, as s own in Fig. 1, to a position at right angles thereto, as shown in Fig. 2, in which latter position the arm 9 will support the shelf 3 in the horizontal position, in which position the shelf is adapted for use in supporting such things as a shaving cup and other articles.

A second member has a vertical portion 11 i'otatabl mounted in the tubular extension 10. S aid second member is provided with a lateral arm 12, which is provided with a vertical extension 13, which extends vertically through a case or box 14, which is rotatable and vertically adjustable on the extension 13 and which is supported on a collar 15 mounted on the extension 13 and adapted to be locked thereto by means of a set screw 16 mounted in the collar 15.

The front of the case 14 is open and is adapted to be closed by a mirror 17 having supporting means connecting it with the casing in a manner such that the mirror can be swung from the closed position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and in solid lines in Fig. 3, to an open and inclined position as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3. Such supportin means comprises preferably a U-shaped member having a horizontal portion 18, on which the mirror 17 is adapted to swing on a horizontal axis. The U- shaped supporting member has its arms 19 disposed at opposite sides respectively of the case 14, said arms being provided respectively with inwardly extending portions 20 which are respectively pivoted on a horizontal axis in bearings 21 mounted on the top of the case 14. The arrangement of the portions 20 in the bearings 21 is such that the arms 19 will be held by friction in the positions to which they may be adjusted. In like manner the mirror 17 is so pivoted on the portion 18 that it will retain the position thereon to which it may be swung.

In the operation of my invention, the shelf 3 is raised to the. horizontal position and the arm 9 is then swung to a position at right angles with the wall and under the shelf 3, thereby supporting the latter in the horizontal position.

The arm 12 may be then swung in the tubular extension 10 to any desired position, so that the case 14 may be at either side of the center of the window. By vertically adjusting the collar 15, the case 14: may be adjusted vertically so that the mirror may be employed when the operator is either standing up or sitting. The case 14 may be revolved on the extension 13 to such position as the operator may desire, and the mirror 17 may be swung on its support to any desired position and it may also be moved vertically to different positions. When not in use, the mirror may be swung to the closed position, thereby affording a cover for the open front of the case, the ,latter serving as a receptacle for such articles as it may be desired to place therein, such as a mug, razor, shaving soap, etc.

In Fig. 3, there is shown a shelf 22, which is pivoted on a horizontal axis by means of a hinge 23 to the forward edge of the bottom of the case 14. The shelf 22 is arranged to be swung to a vertical position within the case 14, as shown in solid lines in Fig. 3, in which position it will be retained b the mirror 17 when the latter is closed. hen the mirror is swung to the open position, the shelf 22 may be swung to the horizontal position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3.

'With my invention, the mirror 17 may be disposed at either side of the window or at the front thereof, the structure affording adjustment of the mirror to most any position which may be desired.

I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as many modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.

What I claim is 1. In a shaving cabinet, the combination with a suitable support, of a shelf hin ed thereto so as to swing from the vertica to the horizontal position, a member having a vertical portion pivoted to said support on a vertical axis at the rear of said shelf and having a lateral arm adapted to swing to and from a position in which it will support the shelf in the horizontal position, the arm having a vertical extension, and means adapted to support a mirror pivoted on a vertical axis on said extension.

2. In a shaving cabinet, the combination with a suitable support, of a shelf hinged thereto so as to swing from the vertical to the horizontal position, a member having a vertical portion pivoted to said support on a vertical axis and having a lateral arm adapted to swing to and from a position in which it will support said shelf in the horizontal position, a second member pivoted on a vertical axis on said arm, and means carried by said second memberadapted to support a mirror.

3. In a shaving cabinet, the combination with supporting means arranged to swin on a vertical axis, of a case verticallya justable and rotatable on a vertical axis on said supporting means and having an open front, mirror supporting means pivoted on a horizontal axis to said case, and a mirror pivoted on a horizontal axis on said mirror supporting means and movable on said sup porting means to and from a position in which it will close said front.
