BOOT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. a,
Application filed. February 6, 1920. Serial No. 356,579.
To all whom it may coacem Be it known that ANDREW SELLAR Crinis'rm, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of Vancouver, in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, have invented certain new and use- :lul. Improvements in Boots, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in boots, with more particular reference to those known as hluchers, and the object of my invention is to devise a method of fastening the lower corner of the facing flap, the
use of which prevents leakage and. wearing and ripping of the stitching through the corner coming into contact with projections or obstacles, thus eliminating disadvantages which are found in such boots at the present time.
I attain this object by the construction illustrated in the accon'ipanying drawing in which the gure shows a portion of a lolucher hoot-in which my improvement is embodied.
According to the original method of making a hlueher boot the open liapped facing is ol'itaiued by stitching the leg part on top of the vamp at the lower corner of the facing, hut this results in the corner being very prominent and oliering a projection liable to come into contact with obstacles during use, so that the corner stitching wears and rips.
it. later method was introduced to do away with the objectionable projecting corner and this method consisted. in carrying the vamp seam around and over the top of the upper,
a construction which, while overcoming the defect of the original method was defective in that, as the toe of the upper hears most of the wear, a seam in that part is more likely to leak than in any other part of the boot; l These defects are entirely eliminated by my method, as illustrated in the drawing. and according to which the vamp 1 is stitched on top of the leg part 2 all the way around the upper, both the leg part and the vamp being cut in such a way that, at the corner referred to, they interlock one with the other as at 3 so that they may be tightly clasped together, the edge of the vamp being stitched close to and underneath the facing flap and the stitching at the corner passing through a lining or stay at underneath.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I havi devised a method of making hlucher boots the use of which removes the objection ahle features pertaining to previous methods of fastening the lower corners of the facing What I claim as'niy invention is in a hlucher boot, the method of fastening the lower corner of the Facing flap which consists in cutting the vamp and the leg part so that they interlock one with the other and overlap at the said corner, the vamp being then stitched all the any around the upper on top of the leg part and close to and underneath said flap at the said corner.
Dated at Vancouver, B. Q, Canada, this 23th day of January, 1920.
ANDREW SELLAR CHRISTIE.
