This invention relates to paper hanging machines.

in object of the invention resides in the production of a device of this character which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly rel'able and efficient in operation, strong, durable and inexpensive to manufacture, and one which will effectively apply the paper toa wall in an expeditious and satisfactory manner.

. The chief characteristic of the present in vention contemplates the provision of a novel construction of paste receptacle which not only affords the contents thereof to be readiiy discharged on the wall, paper, but will evenly i'lischarge the paste to the paper.

ll ith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features, details of construction and combination of parts which will hereinafter be more fully set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawings, in which like characters of reference refer to corresponding parts in the several views, the machine embodies a handle 5 having adjustably mounted there on a frame 6. I desire to have it understood that the handle 5 maybe made of any length and of a plurality of telescopic sec tions, if so desired, to facilitate the use of the device in applying the paper to the wall adjacentthe base board. This frame may be constructed of any suitable material, and has its sleeve 7 embracing thelhandle 5 and adjustably connected therewith through the employmentof a thumb nut or the like fastening device, denoted by the character 8. The upper end of this sleeve 6 is extended to provide a pair of outwardly and upwardly diverging arms 9, each of which is terminally formed at its upper end with an L-shaped bracket 10. The vertical portion 11' of this bracket is utilized as a bearing by the provision of openings 12 therein, to

accommodate the journaling of .trunnions 13 of a paper roll holder 14-. Reposed upon and secured to the horizontal. portion 15 of the Lshaped brackets 10 is a hollow rectangular paste holding receptacle 16. The top wall 17 of said receptacle is provided with a filling opening 1.8 in which the liquid is poured when filling the receptacle with paste or the like adhesive material. This receptacle or tank further embodies a bottom wall 19, and attached to the bottom wall of the receptacle, in any preferred manner, and extending throughout the longitudinal extent of said receptacle is a hollow casing 20. This casing 20 is provided with a pair of diametrically arranged openings including an inlet opening 21 and an outlet opening 22 vertically alining at all times and communicating with a longitudinal row of spaced openings 23 provided in the bottom wall 19 of the paste receptacle. Rotatably mounted in the casing 20 is a valve 2 .2, in the form of a tube, and provided in its length with a plurality of spaced bores 25 adapted, upon the actuation of the valve to an open position, to vertically aline with the openings 23 of the paste receptacle and the respective inlet and outlet openings of the casing, for supplying a predetermined quantity of paste or liquid in the paste receptacle upon the roll of paper supported upon the pa oer roll holder member 14. 7

he handle is provided with a shank 26 to which is connected a brush head 27, disposed below and in parallelism with the roll holder 14: and serving to smooth or brush the paper to the wall. The member 14 is in the form of a spindle or roller upon which the paper is wound by manually op erating the crank 28. One end of the valve 24, owing to the length of the Valve exceeding the length of the paste receptacle,

projects laterally beyond one of the end walls of the paste receptacle to provide a T-shaped head 29 and having connected to the opposite ends of the horizontal portion 30 thereof the branches 31 of a flexible operating strand 32. This strand extends tacle 16 and connected at its opposite end wvith one of the free extremities of the horizontal portion 30 of the T-head 29, while the feeding of the paste from the receptacle is caused by the. manipulation of the thumb latch 34, which in tnrntensions-thc flexible operating strand 32, rockingthe head 29 of the valve againstthe tension of its spring 35 and bringing the bore 25 thereof into registration or vertical alinement with the outlet ports of the respective paste receptacle and casing, and also with the inlet port 21 of the casing. After this operation, and in 7 order to assure against paste accumulating on the paper in a thickened state, use is made-of a spreader 3? constituting a single strip ofrubber or the like material, and arranged along one of the lower longitudinal dges of the paste receptacle 16, and in uxta-position with the roll holder 14-.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,

the advantages of construction and the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates, and while I have described the principles of operation of the invention, together with the device which I new consider to be the best embodiment thereof, 1 desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the appended claim.

In a paper hanging machine, a handle, a paper roll holder at one end of the hundle, a paste receptacle supported upon the handle and provided with an apertured bottom wall, a casing arranged on the bottom of the receptacle having inlet and outlet openings alining vertically with the openings of the receptacle, a valve provided at spaced intervals with bores mounted in the casing for rocking movement, manually controlled means for alining the bores of the valve with the respective openings of the paste receptacle and the inlet and outlet openings of the casing, and means for automatically throwing the valve into closed position.
