will enable others skilled in the art to which 1t appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in movlng picture machines, and has for one of its objects the provision of means whereby a pair of heads can be employed with one lamp, and which heads are interchangeable so that one film can be shown while the film of the other head is changed or rewound, thus rendering a saving of time and expense of two complete machines that are now required-t0 accomplish the same re sult.
Another object of this invention is the provision of means whereby the motive source for driving the films can be used for both heads.
Another object of this invention is the provision of means for locking the heads against accidental movement when one of them is being employed to project a picture, and which means when operated to free the heads for changing the same Wlll render the driving means inoperative.
' A further object of this invention is the provision of a rotary moving picture ma chine of the above-stated character, which will be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view, as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists 1n certain novel features of construction, comb 1- nation and arrangement of parts as Wlll be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference will be had to the followingdescription and accompanying drawings, in which-- I Figure 1 isa front elevation of a rotary moving picture machineconstructed in accordance with my invention,

Referring in detail to the drawings, the
' numerall indicates a base, having uprights 2 and 3, which support a rigid or permanent table 4. The table 4 has mounted thereon the usual lamp or lamp box 5. Located in advance of the table 4 is a turntable 6, which is rotatably supported by a post 7 carried by the base 1. The turntable 6 is provided with oppositely disposed notches 8, which are adapted to be engaged by a catch 9 pivoted to the table 4, as shown at 10. The catch 9 has pivoted thereto a rod 11, which is in turn pivoted to a pivotally mounted lever 12 located upon the base 1. The lever 12 is pivotally mounted and has associated therewith a foot pedal 13. The foot pedal 13 is pivotally mounted upon the base 1, as shown at 14, and has its shortest end disposed under the lever 12, while its treadle end is disposed to one side of the base 1, so that the operator can readily press down upon the same for disengaging the catch 9 from either of the notches 8 in the turntable, whereupon the turntable can be readily rotated.
The turntable 6 has mounted thereon and upon opposite sides of its central axis heads 15 and 16, which heads are located slightly in advance of each other. The central point of the turntable is located laterally of the lamp or lamp box 5, so that the same will be'arranged in alinement with one of the heads, while the other head is disposed laterally thereof. The heads 15 and 16 are of the usual construction, having the shutters l7 and the film supporting reel 18. The receiving or take-up reels 19 are located under the turntable 6, and in alinement with the supporting reels 18, so that the same will receive the films from the supporting reels after passing through the heads in the usual manner. The take-up or receiving reels 19 are driven in the usual mannerby endless belts 20. It will, therefore, be noted that when the catch 9 is in engagement with one of the notches 8, one of the heads will be positioned in alinement with the lamp or lamp box 5, while the other head is disposed laterally thereof, so that the film 1n the next head that is disposed laterally of the lamp or lamp box can be changed or rewound, thus not interfering with the film or the picture being displayed by the other head.
Shafts 21 and 22 are journaled vertically in the turntable 6, adjacent the heads 15 and 16. The shafts 21 and 22 have mounted thereon bevel gears 23, which mesh with bevel gears 24 secured to the drive shafts of the heads 15 and 16. The drive shafts of the heads 15 and 16 are of the usual type for driving or causing the films to pass through the heads onto the receiving or take-up reels 19. Friction disks 25 and 26 are secured to the lower ends of the shafts 21 and 22 for alternate engagement with a friction disk 27. The friction disk 27 is journaled upon a shaft 28, carried by relatively spaced arms 29. The relatively spaced arms 29 are pivotally mounted upon a shaft 30 carried by the post 7 One of the arms 29 has connected thereto a tension spring 31, which is in turn connected to the post 7 for holding the friction disk 27 in engagement with either one of the friction disks 25 or 26, according to the position of the turntable 6. A pulley is formed upon the friction disk 27 and carries an endless belt 32 traveling over a double pulley 33, journaled upon the shaft 30. A power belt 34.- passes over the double pulley 33 and over a pulley 35 carried by the armature shaft of an electric motor 36 located upon the base 1. A rod 37 is pivoted to one of the arms 29 adjacent its upper end and to the other end of the lever 12, so that upon rocking the lever 12 upon its pivot by the foot pedal 13 to disengage the catch 9 from one of the notches 8 in the turntable 6, the friction disk 27 will be disengaged from one of the disks 25 or 26, thus rendering the driving mechanism inoperative through the head that has been projecting the picture.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be noted that a novel means is provided for rotatively supporting a pair of heads adjacent a single lamp box, so that either of the heads may be used in connection with the lamp box to project the pictures'of the different heads if desired. It is also to be noted that the heads are arranged on the table in such a manner that the lamp. box 5 can be moved'in such a position that the light rays can be projected onto the screen between the heads, thus rendering it possible to use colored slides upon the device. The mounting of the lamp box 5 upon the table 4 can be accomplished in any well known manner, so that the lamp box can be shifted laterally to position the same between the heads.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
l. A moving picture machine including a lamp box and a pair of heads, a turntable rotatably supporting the heads so that either one of the heads can be swung into alinement with the lamp box, means locking said turntable against rotation, a motive source, driving mechanism connected to the motive source and adapted to actuate either of the heads when in alinement with the lamp box.
2. A moving picture machine including a lamp box and a pair of heads, a table supporting said lamp box, a turntable associated with said table and supporting the heads, a latch locking said turntable against accidental movement, a pair of friction disks journaled to the turntable and operatively connected with the driving mechanism of the head, a motive source, a driving mechanism connected to the motive source and adapted to be connected with either of the friction disks to operate either of the heads, and means controlling the latch and simultaneously controlling the driving mechanism with relation to the friction disks.
3. A moving picture machine including a lamp boxand a pair of heads, supporting means for said lamp box, a turntable supporting said heads in such a manner that one of the heads will be disposed in alinement with the lamp box while the other head is disposed laterally thereof, friction disks journaled to-the turntable adjacent the heads, bevel gears secured to the friction disks, bevel gears secured to the drive shafts of the heads and in mesh with the first-named bevel gears,
a catch for holding the turntable against accidental movement, a pivotally mounted lever connected to the catch, a foot pedal for actu- 15 ating said lever, a motive source, a driving mechanism pivotally mounted and connected to the motive source, means normally holding the driving mechanism in engagement with either one of the disks, and means connecting the driving mechanism to the lever for disengaging the same with either one of the disks when disengaging the catch from the turntable.
4. A moving picture machine including a lamp box and a pair of heads, a turntable rotatably supporting the heads, friction disks journaled to the turntable, means 0peratively connecting the friction disks to the heads, means locking the turntable against accidental movement, actuating means for said means, a pivotally mounted frame, a motive source, a double pulley journaled to said frame and connected to the motive source, a second pulley carried by the frame and connected to the double pulley, a friction disk connected to the second-named pulley and adapted to engage either one of the firstnamed friction disks, a spring for normally 10 holding the last-named friction disks in en:
gagement with either one of the first-named friction disks, and means connecting the frame with the actuating means.
