Description

O. CACADIER.
CLAMPIMG COLLAR.
APPLICATION FILED DEC-26, 1919.
Patented Nov. 16, 1920.

cLAMrIN -coLLAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 16, 1920.
Application filed December 26, 1919. Serial No. 347,587.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVIER OACADIER, citi-. zen of the Republic of France, and resident of Faris, France, (post office address 6 Rue Lon Cognet,) have invented new and useful Clamping-Collars, which improvements.
are fully set forth in the following specifica tion.
This invention relates to a clamping collar for pipes, characterized by the collar proper being constituted by a wire made of iron, steel, copper, etc., or by a plaited cable, such wire or cable replacing the metal bands or straps hitherto utilized in clamping collars for pipes.
The collar according to the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a section of the collar in place on a cylindrical pipe.
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same, and
Fig. 3 an elevation of the collar mounted on a conical branch.
It will be seen that the collar proper is constituted by two metal elements a, 7); this number is however not absolute, and one element, or more than two elements, could be used.
The ends of each element are passed through suitable holes provided in drums 0, (Z. When two elements a and b are used, it will be seen, from the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, that the said two elements can be constituted by a single wire, the element a being connected to the element 5 by a portion 6 parallel to the drum (Z. After fitting, the tightening elements a and b are tightened by moving the two drums 6, (Z away from each other. This movement apart can be efiected by any suitable mechanical means, for instance by means of a screw f threaded through a central passage in the drum 0 and resting against the drum (Z. By turning the screw 7 in the desired direction according to the inclination of its thread, the drum 0 will be moved away from the drum (Z, the drum 0 playing the part, relatively to the screw 7, of a nut that cannot rotate.
The clamping collar described, has over the existing ones the advantage of making possible a more energetic tightening, the compressed surfaces being less large than when clamping bands are used. Moreover, the drums such as described make possible a swinging movement, which gives the same value to the pull exercised on the two elements of the wire.-
Regulation of the length of the elements is effected by means of a hook in the drum 0 playing the part of a nut; the collar can therefore be applied to pipes of any dimensions, and for the same reason it is possible to exert a tightening action on a conical part, as indicated in Fig. 3.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A clamping collar for pipes, comprising a single'strip of wire bent upon itself to form a loop embodying parallel side portions and a connecting portion between the inner ends thereof;-a pair of drums, each having a pair of transverse holes formed through it in spaced parallel relation, and one drum being also formed with a central, threaded, transverse passage; the said connecting portion of the loop extending along the other drum, and the inner ends oi the parallel side portions of the loop being first inserted through the holes in said other drum and then passed around the pipe to be clamped and having their free outer ends bent back and thereafter passed through the holes in the firstnamed drum; and an adjusting screw passed through the passage in said first-named drum and engaged at its inner end with said other drum, so as to move one drum away from the other and thereby tighten the wire loop around the clamp.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OLIVIER CACADIER.
