Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 16, 1920. Serial No. 359,052.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES M. Tnnnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pine Blufi, in the county of Jefferson and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Stovepipes and Braces, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improved stove pipe support and brace and it has for its object to provide a very simple, eficient and practical device of this character capable of being'manufactured for a relatively low cost and sold at a reasonable profit.
Another object is to provide a support and brace acting to hold the elbow of the stove pipe to the vertical and horizontal parts of the stove pipe and to retain the horizontal section of the stove pipe in the wall of the chimney.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a combined brace and support capable of adjustment in order to support and brace stove pipes of different sizes.
A further object is to provide bracing means to prevent lateral movement of the stove pipe.
lVhile the design and construction at present illustrated and set forth is deemed preferable, it is obvious that as a result of a reduction of the invention to a more practical form for commercial purposes, the invention may be susceptible to changes, and the right to these changes is claimed, provided they are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.

et'erring to the drawings, 1 designates the vertical or conventional form of stove pipe and 2 the elbow which is connected to the upper end of the section in the usual manner. A horizontal section 3 of the stove pipe is fitted into the elbow 2, and in turn fitted in the opening 4 of the wall of the chimney.
Engaging the horizontal section of the stove pipe at a point near the chimney are opposed semi-circular clamps 5, the upper parts of which have ears 6 to receive the bolt 7 to secure the clamps to the stove pipe sections. The lower ends of the clamps are secured together as at 8. Beyond the securing means 8 the clamps are formed with semi-circular auxiliary clamps 9 beyond which lugs or cars 10 are formed. Bolts 11 pass through the ears or lugs '10 to draw the auxiliary clamps 9 toward each other. A combined brace and support 12 is provided and which comprises the rod sections 13 and 14. The clamps 9 engage opposite portions of the rod section 13, so as to connect the clamps 5 rigidly to the support and brace. One end of the rod section 13 terminates in a right angular arm 15 which is secured in any suitable manner as at 16 to the wall of the chimney. Angular braces 17 are provided and have downwardly extending right angle arms 18, which are also secured to the wall of the chimney as at 19. The other ends of the braces 17 terminate in extensions 20, which are semicircular in cross section. Clamps 21 are provided and have cars 22 which are bolted together at 23 and 24. Between the ears 22 of the clamps 21 two sets of semi-circular parts 25 and 26 are provided. The semi-circular parts 25 reoeive the semi-circular extensions 20 thereby securely connecting the braces 17 to the rod section 13. The semi-circular parts 26 of the clamp 21 engage upon opposite portions of the rod section 13 so as to connect the braces 17 rigid with relation to the rod section 13. By this construction the horizontal section 3 of the stove pipe is supported and braced relatively to the chimney.
Engaging opposite portions of the rod section 13 near its outer end are clamps 27.
Each clamp 27 consists of a sheet metal plate bent upon itself to form the clamping sleeve23 whi h receives the rod se"tion 13. Bolts 29 pass through the opposite end nortions of the plates of said clamps to draw Patented Nov. 16, 1920.
the opposite parts closer together. The 0pposite portions of the plates of said clamps are shaped to provide auxiliary semi-circular clamps 30, which grip opposite parts of the rod section l l. The extensions 31 of the clamps 2'? beyond the semi-circular portions 30 receive suitable bolts .32 to draw the parts together. It will be noted that the rod section 14 is capable of adjustment relative to the rod section-13 so that the two rod sections may accommodate stove pipe sections of different lengths and particularly different lengths of horizontal stove pipe sections.
Engaging diametrically opposite portions of the elbow 2 where it engages the vertical pipe section l are clamps 33 the lugs 34 of which are bolted together as at clamps 33 have extensions 36 opposite the lugs 3% and are formed with semi-circular claims 37. The extensions 36 are bolted together as at 38. The semi-circular auxiliary clamps 37 grip the downwardly protruding extension 39 of the rod section 1%, thereby connecting the stove pipe support rigidly with relation to the stove pipe section 1, thereby not only supporting the section 1 in a vertical position, but also holding it tightly conneated to the elbow.
Clamps l0 also engage about the horizontal end of the elbow 2 to clamp the same to the horizontal section 3. These clamps 40 have diametrically opposite ears a1 and extensions lQ. Bolts 43 pass through the ears l1. Bolts 44: also pass through the extensions 42, which have diametrically opposite semi-circular clamps 45 engaging the horizontal portion of the rod section By this construction the horizontal support and brace for the stove pipe is fastened rigidly with relation to the horizontal section of the stove pipe. Also the various clamps for the stove pipe are held in secure positions with relation thereto. It is obvious that by adjusting the rod section 1 the clamp 40 may be adjusted relatively to the stove pipe section3, provided the section 3 in one instance may vary in length than in another instance, and in each case the elbow 2 may be clamped to said section securely.
The inventionhaving been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. In a combined stove pipe brace and support, the combination with a stove pipe comprising vertical and horizontal sections, an elbow connecting said sections, engaging about the opposite ends of the elbow for clamping the same to the adjacent ends of the horizontal and vertical sections,
a combined brace and support rigidly fastened to the wall of the chimney and eX- tending in a horizontal plane parallel with the horizontal section of the stove pipe and being connected to said clamps, and an addi- The clamps tional clamp engaging the horizontal stove pipe section and being in turn connected to the combined brace and support, said horizontal brace and support comprising a pair of rod sections, and means for adjusting said rod sections relatively to each other whereby the combined brace and support may accommodate horizontal stove pipe sec tions of different lengths.
2. In a combined stove pipe brace and support, the combination with the horizontal and vertical stove pipe sections, and an elbow connecting the adjacent ends of said sec-' tions, a combined brace and support fixedly fastened to the wall of the chimney and disposed in a horizontal plane parallel with the horizontal stove pipe section, the end of the combined brace and support remote from the chimney carrying means for clamping the ends of the elbow to the adjacent ends or the horizontal and vertical stove pipe sections," means connected to the combined brace and support near its other end and being'fixedly fastened to the horizontal stove pipe section to brace the combined brace and support relative to the horizontal stove pipe section, said combined brace and support comprising a pair of rod sections, and means adjustably connecting said rod sections,
whereby the combined brace and support may be adjusted to fit horizontal stove pipe sections of different lengths.
3. In a combined stovepipe brace and support, the combination with horizontal and vertical stove pipe sections and an elbow connecting said sections, of a combined brace and support rigidly fastened to the wall of the chimney and extending laterally in a horizontal plane parallel with the horizontal stove pipe section, means surrounding the opposite ends of the elbow and being detachably connected to one end of the combined brace and support, thereby clamping the elbow in position on said pipe sections, means carried by the horizontal stove pipe section nearest the chimney wall and being connected detachably to the combined brace and support, additional braces connected to the combined brace and support and extend- JAMES M.
