To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD DEGNAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kenosha, in the county of Kenosha and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tearing- Apparel, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in wearing apparel and more particularly to underwear of that class known as athletic underwear. One object of the inven tion is to provide a garment that can be manufactured with the greatest economy in the use of goods, the goods being cut so that what is ordinarily wasted as trimmings can be utilized in the manufacture of the garment. Where hundreds or thousands of garments are out every day a sav ing in time and a saving in goods, of substantial proportions, is effected. The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this speci fication and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the arment partly finished.

Like reference characters denote corresponding parts in both views.

The garment proper is formed of the lateral body pieces 1, 2 having the straigh edge portions 3, d and contiguous thereto the edges of said pieces are formed with the recesses 5, 6, said pieces being united adjacent said recessed portions by the insert 7 to which they are sewed, said pieces, further, being formed with the recessed portions 8, 9 and with the recessed portions 10, 11 to form the arm pieces 12, 13. The insert 7 is formed of knitted goods along its Specification of Letters Patent.

inner edge, its opposite edge being formed with the recessed portions 14%, 15 that register, respectively, with the recessed portions 10, 11 of the body pieces 1, 2.

To the outer edge of the insert 7 a double or two-piece neck piece 16 is sewed along the line 17, the said piece 16 being so placed that the grain of the goods runs opposite to the run of the grain in the insert 7 thus insuring greater wearing quality. The outer lateral edges of the body pieces 1, 2 are to be provided with buttons and buttonholes so that said edges, when brought together about a persons body, can be secured together. The neck piece is formed entirely of material cut from the recessed portions at the crotch 18 and at the recessed ends of the pieces 1, 2. The arm pieces are sewed to the neck piece to form the arm holes, and the portions 3, 8 and 4, 9 are sewed together to form the legs.

What is claimed is 1. A union garment comprising, a pair of body pieces formed with recessed portions, arm pieces formed on said body pieces, an insert connecting said body pieces at the back, and a neck piece secured to said insert.

2. A union garment comprising, a pair of body pieces having their edges recessed, arm pieces, formed with recessed edges, integral with said body pieces at the back, an insert connecting said body pieces, and a two-piece neck piece secured to said insert in such manner that the grain of the two members runs in different directions.
