Be it known thatl, WILLIAM A. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Easton, in the county of Northampton and filtate of Pennsylvania, have invented a cer tain new and useful Improvement in Mountings for Drills, of which the followinn is a specification.
T his invention relates to percussive tools and in particular to a mounting for a fluid operated percussive drill to hold and guide the drill within the shell while it is in operation.
The objects of the present invention'are to provide a mounting or carriage for percussive drills which will be simple durable, and readily assembled and which will form a rigid support for the drill cylinder.
A -further object of the invention is to provide :1 11101111131112 or carriage having guides on either side adapted to fit the guideways of a shell and to provide the V mounting or carriage with a feed nut at its rear end to engage the feed screw usually pro ided as a part of the shell.

It is by these means that the cylinder is held in position on the carriage or mounting. The carriage 12 at its forward end is provided with two lugs 13 each having a hole bored horizontally therethrouqh similar to and of the same size as the hole 10 the lugs being separated suflici'ently to permit the lug 9 on the motor casino 2 to pass between them, thus bringing the holes through the 1112's on the mounting into alinement with the hole 10 in the lug on the motor casing. pin 15 extends through each of the holes provided in the lugs 9 and 13, thus rotatively holding the mounting or carriage 12 and drill cylinder body 1 together.
At the rear of the mounting or carriage 12 depends a luq 14 having a lourritudinal hole extending therethroug'h in which is located the feed nut 16 through which passes the feed screw lfrotatively mounted in the shell 18 and by means of which the drill is advanced and withdrawn from the rock during its operation.

What 'I'claim is:
1. In a mounting for percussive tools, in combination a shell, a feed screw, a cylinder body provided with a lug at its forward end and a portion at its rear end having a notch therein, a carriagermounted' on said shell and adapted to pivotally engage said cylinder body at' its forward end and a clamp. secured to said carriage and engagingpsaid notch to hold said cylinder body and carriagatogether. In a. mounting for percussive tools, in combination a shell, a feed screw, a cylinder body, provided with 'a-lug'at its forward end and a portion at its rear end having a, notch therein, a carriage mounted on said shell: and having .a pin engaging the lug on the cylinderzbody. and a. clamping member engaging; the notch on said carriage whereby saidic'ylinderbody an'dcarriage are held rigidlvtogether;

In a mounting for percussive tools, a shell, a feed screw and feed nut, a carriage mounted on said shell and arranged to be fed therealong by means of said feed screw, a'tool cylinder body provided with a lug at its forward end and arranged to be pivoted to the forward end of said carriage by men us of lugs on said carriage, the said cylinder body having a notch at its rearward end and clamps secured to said carriage in a manner to engage said notch and hold said cylinder body, carriage and feed nut in position.
9. In a mounting for percussive tools, a shell, a feed screw and feed nut, a carriage mounted on said shell and arranged to be fed therealong by means of said feed screw and nut, a toolcylinder body attached to said carriage at one end and a common means serving to secure the cylinder body to the carriage atithe other end and to secure the feed nut inposition relative to the carriage.
10. In a mounting for percussive tools, a shell, a feedscrew and feed nut, a carriage mountedon said shell and arranged to be fed therealong by means ofsaid feed screw and nut, a tool cylinder body attached to said carriage at one end and a common means-0n said feed screw serving to secure the cylinder bodyto the carriage at the othenend and tosecure the feed nut in position relative to the-carriage;

In amounting for percussive tools. a shell a! feed screw and feed nut, a carriage mounted on said shell and arranged to be fed therealong by means of said feed screw and nut, a tool cylinder body attached to said carriage at one end, and a single clamping'm'eans for simultaneously securing the cylinder body, carriage and feed nut, in position.

In a mounting for percussive tools, a shell,a feed screw and feed nut, a carriage mounted on said shell and arranged to be fed therealong by means of said feed screw and nut, a tool cylinder body attached to saidcarriage at one end, and a single clamping means on said feed screw for simultaneously securing the cylinder body, carriage and feed nut in position.

In a mounting for percussive tools, a shell, a feed screw and feed nut, a carriage mounted on said shell and. arranged to be fed therealong by means of said feed screw and nut, a tool cylinder body attached to said carriage at one end and clamping means at the other end comprising a bolt and nut for exerting pressure longitudinally of the cylinder body, against a clamping member, for securing said cylinder body, carria 'e and feed nut in position.

In. a mounting for percussive tools, a shell, a feed screw and feed nut, a carriage mounted. on said shell and arranged to be fed therealong by means of said feed screw and nut, a tool cylinder body attached to said carriage at the forward end and clamping means at the rear end comprising a bolt and nut for exerting pressure longitudinally of the cylinder body, against a clamping member for securing said cylinder body, carria e and feed nut in position.
