Abstract

13,126. Austin, H. Sept. 14. Boring-bars for work such as the interior of shells have the tool carried by a sleeve slidable on the bar and adjustable as controlled by a former on the bar. The bar B, Fig. 1, is carried at one end by a support M, Fig. 5, and flanged bushes N<1> inserted from opposite sides after the bar has been dropped into place and secured by keys K, K<1> engaging flats on the bar. The portion on which the sleeve slides may be eccentric to the hole to be bored, the sleeve being correspondingly eccentric to obtain increased strength. The sleeve is located by a pin and hole on a saddle or like means, by which it is fed. The cutter E, positioned and clamped as controlled by a spring G and screw F, is pivoted to the sleeve at c' and has an abutment d engaging a formed surface b<3> on the bar as controlled by a spring H. The sleeve has a key b<1> engaging a spline in the bar and is grooved at b<6> for an oil tube.
