FRANK JULIUS HBUSKA, OF CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA, ASSIGNOR TO LE FEBURE LEDGER COMPANY, OF CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA, A CORPORATION OF IOWA.
BINDER-TRAY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 16, 1920.
Application filed February 8, 1918. Serial No. 216,030.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK J. HRUSKA; a citizen of the United States residing at Ce.- dar Rapids, in the county of Linn and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Binder-Trays, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hinder trays and consists in certain improvements in the construction thereof as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In a patent issued to me Oct. 8th, 1918, $21,280,737, I have shown and described a binder tray in which there is a binder clamp having leaf supports swingingly mounted on the clamp. I have found that it is desirable to have a means for positively positioning the leaf supports and the present application is directed to this invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows Figure 1 shows a plan View of the tray.
Fig. 2 an end elevation.
Fig. 3 a section on the line 3-3 in Fig. 2.
1 marks the base, 2 a longitudinal slot in the base, 3 a clamping screw having oppositely pitched threads extending along the slot I bearings at the ends of the base in which the clamping screw is mounted, 5 a crank for operating the clamping screw 6 nuts extending into the slot 2 and operating upon the screws, the nuts forming a support or guide for the clamping bars 7, and 8 a leaf support pivoted on the clamping bars at 9.
In order to support the leaf support at any angle I provide the stop plate 10. This extends through a strap 11 arranged on the back of the leaf support 8. The stop plate 10 has a slot 12 and a thumb screw 13 extends through this slot into the leaf support 8. By means of this construction the stop plate 10 may be adjusted relatively to the leaf support 8. A foot 14c extends outwardly from the stop plate 10 and rests upon the base at the edges of the slot 2 in position when the plate is adjusted downwardly to form a support limiting the pivotal movement of the leaf support. As the stop plate 10 is adjusted upwardly it permits the leaf support to swing outwardly and the angle to which it is limited may be fixed at any polnt desired by the adjustment of the plate 10. At the limit of the upward adjustment of the plate 10 the leaf support may be moved down to a horizontal position, the foot 14 being lifted a sufficient distance to clear the base or bar 7. In this position of the plate 10 the leaf supports rest on the end bails l5 and are horizontal. These bails extend from the ends of the base and form convenient handles as well as supports for the plates 10 when they are swung to the horizontal position. W'hen so used notations may be made on the leaves as with an ordinary book.
The clamping bar is provided with an auxiliary bar 7 which forms a clamping face on the bar 7.
lVhat I claim as new is 1. In a binder tray the combination of a base; a clamping bar on the base; a leaf support swingingly mounted on the bar; and adjustable means for setting the leaf support at various angles.
2. In a binder tray the combination of a base; a clamping bar on the base; a leaf support swingingly mounted on the bar; adjustable means for setting the leaf support at various angles; and means for adjusting the clamping bar on the base.
3. In a binder tray the combination of a base; opposing bars on the base; means for adjusting one of said clamping bars; a leaf support swingingly mounted on each of said clamping bars; and adjustable means for setting the leaf supports at various angles.
at. In abinder tray, the combination of a base; clamping members mounted on the base comprising a clamping bar and a leaf support swingingly mounted on the bar; a stop plate mounted on one of the members and limiting the swinging movement of the leaf support; and means for adjusting the plate.
In a binder tray, the combination of a base; a clam ing bar on the base; a leaf support swingingly mounted on the bar; a stop plate mounted on the leaf support and limiting the swinging movement of the leaf support; and means for adjusting the stop plate to vary the angle to which the leaf support is limited.
6. In a binder trav. the combination of a base; a clamping bar mounted on the base; a leaf support swingingly mounted on the bar; and a stop plate adjustably mounted on the leaf support and'having a fo'ot for supporting the leaf support at different angles.
I 7. In a b nder tray, thecombination-of a base; a clamping'bar'on the base; a leaf support swingingly mounted on the bar; adjustable means for controlling the angle to which the leaf sunnort swings; and bails at the ends of the trayforming supports for the leaf support when the adjustable 10 means is adjusted to permit the limit of movement of the leaf support.
Intestimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
FRANK JULIUS HRUSKA.
