Application filed December 19, 1917.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Trrnooonn F. P111- LIrrI, a citizen of the United States 'of America, a residentof East St. Louis, in the county of St. Clair, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and. useful Int provements in Crushers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in Crushers, the object being to provide a simple and very efficient means for crushing, or crushing and pulverizing, various kinds of material, such for example as marble chips. The preferred form of the invention comprises a rotatable crushing device arranged withim a rotatable annular-housing. The material to be crushed and pulverized is introduced through acentral in take opening in the rotatable housing, and the pulverized product is drawn out, by suction, through a central cischarge opening. The novelty lies in certain combinations of elements and certain details of construction which will be hereinafter described and set forth in the claim.
Figure I is a side elevation of a crusher and pulverizer constructed in accordance with mv invention. j
Fig. TI is a vertical section.
Fig. III is a section taken on the line TIL-HI, Fig. 11.
The structure herein shown comprises bearings 1, ahorizontal shaft 2 rotatably mounted in said bearings, a drive pulley 3 fixed to said. shaft, a crushing device comprising a spider 1 secured to the shaft 2, pins or lingers 5 extending laterally from the arms of the spider 4t, and crushing rings 6 loosely mounted on said pins 5. These pins are connected together and reinforced by a retaining ring 7 (Figs. I and If), the extended end portions of said pins being re duced and provided with screw threads. Nuts 8 are fitted to the threaded ends of pins 5 to secure the retaining ring '7. The relatively small crushing rings 6 are loosely mounted between the spider 4 and the retaining ring '7.
The crushing elements ust described are surrounded by a rotatable annular housing A, mounted in a stat onary circular support 9, provided with bearings 10 for antifriction rollers 12 which engage the pe- Specification of Letters Patent.

ripheral face of said rotatable housing, the latter having guide flanges 13 at opposite sides of the rollers. The anti-friction rollers 12 allow the annular housing to turn freely around the internal crushing elements, and'the guide flanges 13 cooperate with the rollers to secure the housing to the stationary supporting ring 9. A large crushing ring 14, carried by the housing, cooperates with the relatively small crushing rollers 6 to pulverize the material in the housing. This large crushing ring 1st is made of a number of arcuate sections 1% (Fig Ill.) secured to the peripheral wall of the housing by means of radial screws 15, the heads of the screws being eX- posed at the periphery of the housing, and the arcuate sections 1-1 being threaded to receive the screws. These arcuate sections as well as the small crushing rings 6, are preferably made of hardened metal.
The opposite side walls of the housing are preferably offset and provided with converging annular faces 16 and 16 (Fig. ll) whereby the material to be crushed is directed to the segmental crushing ring 14.
One side wall of the rotatable housing is provided with a central intake opening 17 (Fig. ii) and an approximately L-shaped stationary intake tube, or chute, 18 extends into said opening. This stationary intake member is secured to one of the bearings 1, as shown in Fig. 11. The rotatable housing is also provided with a central discharge opening, and an approximately Lshaped suction tube 19 (Fig. 11) extends into this opening. The pulverized material can be drawn through the suction tube 19 by means of a suction fan, as indicated in Fig. II. This suction tube 19 is stationary and it may be provided with a bracket 20 secured to one of the bearings 1.
The power transmission devices include the shaft 2 which extends through the suction tube 19 and also through the central openings in the rotatable housing, a sprocket wheel 21 secured to said shaft, :1 chain whereby power is transmitted from said sprocket wheel to a larger sprocket 23 on a shaft 24:, a pinion25 se cured to said shaft 2%, and a large gear ring 26 meshing with said pinion. The large gear ring is secured to one side of the rotatable annular housing. The internal crushing elements revolve at a relatively high speed, while the annular housing turns 10 mounted on the reduced ends of said. Bins.
securing means on said reduced ends, said retaining ring being confined between the said shouide and said securing means and crushing means loosely mounted upon the said pins between the i'etatable carrier and the retaining ring.
In testimony that I (him the foregoing I. hereunto aflix. my signature.
