To all whom if 'nmy concern:
Be it known that I, Joniv Hnvnxn, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade Circuit- Closers, of'which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to signaling systems, and has for an object to provide an electrically operable signal associated with shade roller brackets of a specific construction whereby the act of raising or lowering the shade will sound the signal there by notifying the occupants of the house of the fact, for use as a burglar alarm or for other purposes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a shade roller bracket or brackets of a specific construction operable in the capacity of a circuit closer when the shade is raised or lowered for the purpose above described.
In addition to the foregoing my invention comprehends improvements in the details of construction and. arrangement of the parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly set forth in the appended claims.

With reference to the drawings, 10 indicates a shade roller having, for the purposes of my invention, a metallic cap 11 at each end, said caps being electrically connected through the medium of a conductor 12 which may extend through the shade roller.
The trunnion 13 on the left hand end of the shade roller may be rectangular in cross section and engaged. in a complemental opening in the left hand bracket 14 whereby the spring usually provided within the roller may be held against rotation during relative rotative' movement of the shade roller. However, the extremity of the trunnion 13 is tion which extension 18 is flattened in cross section and substantially rectangular as shown in Fig. 3. The right hand end of the shade roller is mounted in a bracket which comprises a base plate 19 for attachment to the window casing having a forward extension 20 which is formed with a central opening 21 of a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the cylindrical portion 17 of the trunnion 16. A disk of lnsulating material 22 is secured to the inner surface of the extension 20 of the bracket through the medium of screws 23 or the like, said disk 22 having a central opening 24 in which the cylindrical portion 17 of the trunnion 16 is snugly engaged in a manner however to permit rotation of the trunnion therein. A bracket is secured to the exterior face of the extension 20 of the right hand bracket adjacent the base plate 19 thereof, said bracket consisting of a strip 25 secured to the exterior face of the extension 20 through the medium of screws 26, the lower end of the strip 25 being bent upwardly as at 27 and apertured. A spring contact finger 28 is provided having its rear end apertured whereby it may be engaged to the portion 27 of the strip 25 through the medium of a bolt 29 whereby the opposite end may extend forward to a point beneath the rectangular portion 18 of the trunnion 16 and urged upward by the inherent resiliency of the spring finger, said upward movement however being limited by the provision of a stud 30 extending from the extension 20 of the end bracket. It will be noted that when the rectangular portion 18 of the trunnion 16 is disposed parallel to the strip 28 said trunnion and strip are out of contact, contact between the two however being readily established by rotating the shade roller so as to dispose the rectangular portion 18 ofthe trunnion at right angles to the former position whereby one edge or the other of the rectangular portion of said trunnion may engage the contact strip 28' for a purpose which will be presently apparent.
I further provide an electrically operable audible signal secured at 31 havingone ter minal connected by means of a conductor 32 to the left hand bracket 14; of the shade roller. A conductor 33 is further provided to connect the other terminal of the signal with the right hand bracket of the shade roller, a source of current 84: being inter posedin said conductor.
It will be obvious that it the shade roller is rotated by pulling down-the shade, or permitting the same to move upward the trunnion 16 during rotation thereofwill alternately engage opposite sides of the rectangular portion 18 with the contact strip 28 thereby transmitting impulses of current to the audible signal 31 to sound the same thus notifying the occupants of the house that the shade has thus been moved. It a switch is provided in the circuit the switch may be retained in open position during the day which willpermit free use of the shade roller without sounding the signal, however, during the night the switch may be closed so that a sounding of the signal will warn the occupants of the house of an attempted entrance of an unauthorized person; The signal 31 may be either of the single stroke or vibrating type.
While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations thereover may be made, and I therefore desire to reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of con struction, or otherwise altering the arrange ment of the correlative parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination, a shade roller having a trunnion rectangular in cross section, a bracket adapted to support said trunnion to permit tree rotation'of the shade roller, and a contact finger mounted on the bracket for intermittent engagement with the rectangular trunnion during rotation of the shade roller.
2. In combination, a shade roller having a trunnion formed with a cylindrical portion and a portion which is angular in cross section, a bracket having a journal for the cylindrical portion of the trunnion, and .a contact finger mounted on the bracket for intermittent engagement with the angular portion of the trunnion during rotation of the shade roller.
3. In combination, a shade roller having a trunnion formed with a cylindrical por tion and portion which is angular in cross section, a bracket having an opening to re ceive the trunnion in spaced relation thereto, a disk of insulating material secured to the 1,35s,ese
bracket having a journal to receive the cytact finger mounted on the bracket for intermittent engagement with the angular portion of the trunnion during rotation of the bracketv for intermittent engagement with the said extension during rotation of the shade roller, and means tor limiting vibratory movement of said finger.
5. In combination with a shade roller having a trunnion with a fiat side, an electrical circuit including a contact lying in the lindrical portion of the trunnion, and a conpath of movement of the trunnion and 7 adapted for wiping contact therewith when the latter is rotated, and means to normally hold the contact spaced from th'e flat side of the trunnion.
6. In combination with a shade roller hav ing a trunnion provided with a rectangular portion, a bracket supporting said roller, means extending along the side of the bracket and beneath the rectangular portion for intermittent engagement therewith, and means for limiting the vibrating movement of the firm mentioned means.
7. In combination with a shade roller, a bracket, an insulator disk secured to the bracket for supporting-the roller, a spring contact finger extending along the outer face of the bracket, and means extending from the roller for .intermi tent engagement with said finger. I
8. In combination, a roller,.a trunnion extending therefrom, a rectangular portion extending from the trunnion, a bracket having an opening therethrough, an insulating disk secured to the inner face of said bracket and provided with an opening for receiving and supporting said trunnion, and a spring contact finger positioned adjacent the outer face of the bracket and extending below the rectangular portion, said finger being held normally out of engagement with the rectangular portion, but capable of intermittent engagement therewith upon rotation of the roller.
