Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THEODORE STOOKMARR', OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
'IMPROVEMENT IN BUSTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,855, dated February 11, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THEODORE STocKMARR,
of the city, county, and State of N ew York,
have invented an Improvement in Bustles, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in a bustle composed of two or. more tiers of fluted, corrugated, or plaited material, connected with a waistband or strap, the same forming a very simple, cheap, and effective bustle, in which springs are or may be altogether dispensed with.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specificatiom'Figure 1 represents a view, in perspective, ot a'bustle made in accordance with my improvement; and Fig. 2, a vertical section of the same, transversely through the tiers of which the bustle is composed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A A represent two or more tiers of fluted or corrugated material, of different depths or widths, and arranged to fall or lie one over the other, the largest tiers being underlnost,
and each tier connected at its upper edge with the waistband or strap B of the bustle. The direction of the flutes or corrugations in the tiers A A is in the depth or width of the latter; and saidtiers, which are of a curved shape in direction of their length, are made of any suitable fabric. or material, but preferably one in which there is considerable dressing, to give the tiers their requisite stiffness.
This forms a very simple and cheap bustle, which will fulfill its requirement of holding or setting out the dress of the wearer, as needed, without the aid of springs for the purpose.
What is here claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
A bustle composed of two or more tiers of fluted, corrugated, or plaited material, arranged in relation with each other, as described, and attached at their upper edges to the waistband or strap, substantially as speci fied.
