Description
W. D. TRISSLE'R.
Fruit-Baskets Patented Feb. 11,1873..
WTNEEEEE. 1 Ilm/ENTER, @zf fm AMPHoro-umosmmfc m Nxmsaalmffs mach-sg) JNITEE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER D. TRISSLER, OF DUNKIRK, NEV YORK.
IMPROVEMNT IN FRUIT-BASKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,737, dated February' 1l, 1873.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, WALTER D. TnrssLER, of the town of Dunkirk and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baskets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, that will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which .form a part of thisspecilication.
The nature of my invention relates to -the construction of a cheap but serviceable fruitbasket 5 and consists in constructing the body from paper. or other like substance, and saturating it with parafne or its equivalent, so as to make it water-proof and to prevent it from being stained by the juice ofthe berries; in the manner of putting it together, and ot forming the feet at the same time that the body is stamped or out, as will hereafter be more fully set forth.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my basket, and Fig. 2 is a section ofthe same.
A represents the body of the basket, made of paper or thin sheets ot' wood, which may be cut or stamped by a die, the perforations and feet a being 'formed at the same time. The feet are formed by so constructing the die that at each corner it will stamp or raise a suitable projection, which serves to keep the vcorner only.
bottom ot' the basket from the table or board upon which it rests, and this insures a free and constant circulation all around the berries. Before or after the body has been cut or stamped it is thoroughly saturated with paraftine, or its equivalent, so as not only to make it water-prooi', but to prevent it from being stained by the juice of the berries. Around the rim is placed the rods b, which have a groove cut along their entire under sides large enough to receive a cord, c, and the upper edges of the body A.
These cords may be secured together either at the corners, or a single one may be run around the entire edge and secured at 011e The corners may also be secured as shown; but I prefer the use of the cord.
Having thusV described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isl A fruit-basket, with body A saturated with paraftine, having feet a, in combination with rods b having cords c, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony' that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 9th day of October, A. D. 1872.
WALTER I). TRISSLER.
