BURGLAR ALARM.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 19. m?0.

INVENTOR fi d, 6002/ ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED CARTER, 0F SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
BURGLAB-ALARM.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED CARTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Vvashington, have invented a new and useful Burglar-Alarm, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in burglar alarms, and its object is to provide an arm detachably mounted on a door, which, upon the door being opened, comes in contact with and rings a bell of the push button variety mounted on the door casing, said device being instantly placed in or out of operative position, by the placing or removal of said arm. 7
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of a door and casing, showing the device attached to the door, and a call bell attached to the casing; Fig. 2, top view of a door partly opened, the casing, and the device in contact with a call bell; Fig. 3, perspective of an arm-supporting bracket; Fig. 4, elevation of arm adapted to be carried by said bracket.
The device comprises the support shown in Fig. 3, the body of which is designated 1, provided with a rectangular socket 2. This fixture is attached to a door, adjacent the casing, as shown in Fig. 1.. 3 represents an arm, having at one end a downwardly eX tending rectangular portion 4-, being located substantially at right angles to the body of the arm, the other end 5 having sli htly enlarged beaded portion. Attached to the door casing and slightly above the fixture 1 are the push button and fixtures 6 of a call bell. I prefer to use an electric bell, but any bell actuated by a push button can be used. To put the alarm in operative position, the arm is placed in the support as shown in Fig. 1; the rectangular portion 4 fitting into the socket 2 loosely enough to be easily placed or removed, the form of said portion and the socket, however, being such as to prevent any substantial lateral movement of the arm in the socket. With the parts thus placed, Ithe opening of the door, as shown in Fig. 2,
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented 0 1;, 26, 1920, Application filed January 19, 1920. Serial No. 352,411.
causes the end 5 to press against the push button of the bell 6, to ring it and give an alarm. To take the alarm out of operative position, the arm 3 is simply removed from the socket, and the door will function in the ordinary way.
The essential features of the invention resioe in the simple means described for ringing a bell, actuated by a push button, whether electric or otherwise, upon a door being slightly opened. The device also retards the opening of the door to its full extent; the insertion or removal of the arm permitting the user to apply or disconnect the alarm, as desired.
1 claim:
1. A. burglar alarm, comprising in combination with a door, a door casing and a call bell of the push button variety, a support having a rectangular socket, an arm detachably mounted in said socket, adapted to contact with said push button and ring the bell when the door is opened.
2. A device of the class described, having a supporting member carrying a socket rectangular in cross-section, an arm having an ofiset toe at one end, rectangular in crosssection, adapted to fit in said socket, the other end of the arm being slightly enlarged and adapted to contact with the push button of a call bell located adjacent thereto, and to ring the bell, when slight lateral movement is communicated to said supporting member and arm.
3. A. device of the class described, having a supporting member carrying a socket, an
arm one end of which is detachably mounted in the socket so as to prevent lateral movement of the arm within the socket, the other end of the arm adapted to contact with the push button of a call bell located adjacent thereto, and ring said bell, when slight lateral movement is communicated to said support and arm.
4. In a burglar alarm, an easily detachable arm adapted to contact with the push button of a call bell, and ring said bell, when a door is opened.
