JOHN THOMAS SMITH, OF LANG- IBAY, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
SKID-OILER.
Patented Oct. 26, 1920.
Application filed December 27, 1919. Serial No. 347,652.
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN THoMAs SMITH, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and. a resident of Lang Bay, in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skid-Oilers, of which the following is a economy in connection with the handling of shingle bolts.
I attain this object by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- I Figure 1 is a side view showing the front part of a sled with which my invention is embodied.
Fig. 2 is a front end view.
Similar figures of reference similar parts in the views.
indicate 1 indicates generally the front portionof a shingle bolt sled having the parallel side runners 2 and 3, while 4 indicates the skids on which the sled travels. At the present time it is customary for a man or boy to oil the skids in the path of the sled by applying thick oil thereto by means of a brush, but this involves considerable expense for wages, and also for oil, since more oil is used than is actually necessary. In
order to overcome this defect I provide in the forward end of each runner a pipe 5 on the lower end of which is mounted a tubular collar 6 provided with a brush 7 adapted to contact with the skids as it is carried along by the sled, while theupper end of the pipe is provided with an oil tank 8. The oil may be shut off from the pipe when required by any suitable type of valve.
The manner in which the device operates and its utility will be readily apparent, as it will be seen that, the oil being turned on, it willflow down the pipe 5 into the brush 7 and bedistributed on the skids in the-path f of the sled as the latter moves forward, so that-the oiling operation is effected eco-' nomical-ly and with great convenience. lVh-at I claim as my invention is 1. The combination'with a sled, of an oil feed pipe mounted vertically adjacent the front .end of each sled runner, each pipe being connected at its upper end with a tank and at its lower end with a down-I wardly directed brush disposed in front of its respective runner.
2. The combination with a sled of a pipe mounted vertically adjacent the front end of each sled runner, each said pipe being provided on its lower end with a tubular member having bristles adapted to brush over the sled track in front of 1ts runners and having on its upper end .a tank for containing lubricant. V
Dated at Powell River, B. (3., this 20th day of November, 1919. i
JOHN THOMAS SMITH.
