Be it known that I, GEORGE HENRY EL-A wELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in `the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, but formerly of Boston,
in the county of Suffolk and State of Mas-` sachusetts, have invented certain new and useful improvements in IDoor-Latches, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements'in door latches and more particularly to that class of latches employingav bolt with Va hook-shaped head for positive interlocking engagement with the striker-plate.
4The objects of my invention are to provide a latch bolt fully adapted to the elasticity of motor car bodies and like uses;l to provide a positive lock insuring safety to occupants of the car employing it; to provide a latch in itself anti-rattle, without'the assistance of rubber bumps on' the door stops;
and to provide a latch, the closing action ofV of the Construction can be `made without departing from the spirit or modifying any of the advantages of the invention.

An anti-rattle safety extension bolt door holding means comprising a strikers plate and a latch mechanism comprising a proper incasement, said incasement having a face provided with a perforation, saidperforation being reinforced by a strap providing bolt guiding bearings; a latch bolt having a double beveled head, said head forming arigid hook; an auxiliary bolt carried by said latch bolt head, said latch bolt being slidably mounted in the bolt passageprovided by said incasement and capable of advancing through said reinforced perforation` to and beyond normal latching position; spring means exerting its tension'against saidy auxiliary bolt and against a shoulder with which saidlatch ,bolt is provided; spring means exerting its tension in a forwardly direction against a conveyer mounted v in said latch bolt passage and arrested in its forward movement by a check with which said incasement is provided and normally in a rearwardly direction against a back provided by said incasement7 said latch bolt engage the forward surface of said conveyer andthe rearward extremity of-said spring means, said springmeans permitting said latch bolt to be moved in either direction from a normal 'intermediate position and adapted to return said latchbolt to said inmeans to ietire said auxiliary boltwithin said incasement, said means comprising a lever pivoted to said latch bolt and opera- Y tively engaging said auxiliary bolt.
