TOOTHBRUSH-HOLIDER.
integer.
Specification of Letters Patent. Pa,i;e t d O t 19 1920 Application filed July 29, 1920. Serial No. 399,728.
To all whom it mayoonoern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES RUssnLL Cnnx- TON, a citizen of the United States, resid ng at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toothbrush- Holders, and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
This invention is a novel tooth brush holder, adapted to be attached to a wall or other suitable support.
Its object is to provide a sanitary and convenient holder having a dripbasin or pocket for catching water after the use of brushes preventing same from dripping on wall,
.floor or smearing shelving in cabinet; and having individual notches for a number of brushes; and which can be securely and quickly attached to the wall or wainscoting in a convenient position for use; and which holders can be made to accommodate any number of brushes.
ll will explain the holder with reference to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a practical embodiment of the invention, and summarize in the claims the features of the invention for which protection is desired: I
In said drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the holder attached to the wall.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the holder, illustrated in Fig. 1, showing a brush suspended thereon.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the holder stamping or blank prior to bending same. Fig. i is a front View of the holder.
The holder 'is preferably stamped, cast or pressed, out of any suitable material: I
preferably stamp it out of sheet metal. As shown it has a top or shelf portion 1, and a lower or bracket portion 4, preferably formed integral; the bracket portion depending from the rear edge of the shelf portion and at right angles thereto.
The shelf portion-1 is preferably approximately oval shaped in plan, and in its outer,
edge are formed a plurality of retaining notches 2 each adapted to receive the handle of a tooth brush, which can be entered in the notch and suspended on the holder (as indicated at B in Fig. 2), with the bristles inward.
The shelf portion may be slightly dished on its upper side, and is formed with a depressed pocket 3, as shown, into which water draining from the brushes will be trapped and retained until evaporated or emptied. This depressed portion 3 also stiffens and strengthens the shelf portion of the holder, and prevents its sagging.
The bracket portion 4: is preferably formed integrally with the rear part of the shelf portion 1, and is preferably formed by first stamping the shelf portion and bracket portion out of a sheet of suitable material with the pocket portion in the plane of the shelf portion, as indicated in Fig. 3, and then the bracket portion is pressed or bent down at right angles to the shelf portion as in the drawings.
The bracket portion may be provided with perforations as shown, for the passage of retaining screws 5, by which it can be fastened to a wall or other suitable support in convenient position for use as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2.
The holder is convenient, keeps the brushes properly spaced apart, and'the drip basin or pocket catches and retains the drainage from the brushes and prevents the water dropping and soiling the floor or wall.
I claim 1. A tooth brush'holder comprising a shelf portion having a plurality of spaced notches in its outer edges for engagement by tooth brush handles, 'said shelf portion having a depression forming a pocket in its upper side adjacent the notches so that water dripping from brushes engaged in the notches will be caught and retained in said pocket; and a bracket portion supporting the shelf portion and depending from the'rear end thereof and adapted to be fastened to a wall, substantially as described.
2. A tooth brush holder pressed out of sheet metal comprising a shelf portion having a plurality of spaced notches in its outer rue meme? edges for engagement by tooth brush handles, said shelf portion having a depres sion forming a pocket in its upper side con.- forming to the shape of the shelf portion, the margin of the pocket being adjacent the notches so that Water dripping from brushes engaged in the notches will be caught and. retained in said pocket; and a bracket portion formed integral with and depending from the rear edge of the shelf portion and 10 adapted to be fastened to a Wall substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I sfiix my signature.
JAMES RUSSELL CLUXTUN.
