DEVICE FOR TI-IE CARRYING OF CURTAIN RODS AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patehted'O t; 19 1920;
Application filed-April 3, 191'9. Serial No. 287,324.
i To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I SvANrn VERNER Home, a subject of the ing of Sweden, residing at St. Eriksgatan 16 Stockholm, Sweden, in the Kingdom of weden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for the Carrying of Curtain Rods and the like, .of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has for itsobject devices for the carrying of curtain rods, poles for draperies, and the like.
In the round curtain rods now used, which are provided with round orspherical knobs at the ends, esthetic considerations demand that the heads of the holders carrying'the rods shall entirely, or apparently entirely, surround the rod. In such hitherto used holders the head consists of an entire ring which is formed of one piece with the holder, which is usually screwed in the wall. The taking down of curtain rods together with the curtain is a somewhat troublesome process.
The object of the present invention is to render possible an easy and convenient fixing and taking down of the curtain rods, although the heads of the holder entirely surround, or appear entirely to surround, the rod. F or this purpose the heads surrounding the curtain rod are, in accordance with the present lnventlon, constructed 1n theform of a jacket surrounding the outer end of thesupport, and composed of two parts hinged with one another (or lockable with one another), of which the one is attached to the support, while the other is detachable or hinged in such a manner that when the said part is removed from its normal position surrounding the curtain rod, the curtain rod can be freely placed in, or removed from, the holder. 7 V
In order to make plain the is shown in the accompanying drawing a form of the device in question.
Figure 1 shows the device in lateral view and Fig. 2 shows it in front view. 1 designates the actual attachment for the support 2 which attachment consists of a clamp-like part, suitably made of a tin plate bent double, and equipped with a vertical channel in which the support 2 can be adju stably inserted by tightening the screws 3, by means of which the clamp-like part is fixed to the window frame or to the wall. These invention there- 'which even when the screws pass through the parts lying overone another of the clamp-like part, which :parts thus, by the tightening of the screws are ammed against one another, so that the channel carrying the support :2 is pressed together and jammed around thesupport, which-in cross section suitably hasarec'tangular or other non-round s'hape, in order that the arrangement may be firm. The support is furnished at the top with a horizontally, or mainly horizontally, projecting arm 4, whichat its outer end is bentinto a hook 5, to which the head carrying the curtain rod 14, and divided into two parts 5, 7, hinged together, so that they may be turned with regard to each other, is fixed. The one half 7 of this head'is shown in Fig. 1, by lines composed of dots and dashes in an opened position and united by means of the hinge 8 with the part 6 fixed to the hook 5. When the part 7 is lowered in its normal position,
it is held securely in this position by means it can by the use of this device be easily brought into its position on the curtain holder 4, or removed from it, without its being necessary for any parts to be loosened or for the curtain to be dislodged from its position.
10 and 11 designate holders for rods 15, carried by the support 2, or by the latters horizontal arm 4 by the aid of a socket 12, or a movably arranged arm 13, fixed to the said parts, which holders are intended to carry inner curtains.
Asshown by the drawing, the part 6, which forms one half of the head, is con structed in the form of a plate jacket surrounding the hook 5, and thus forms a covering for the hook 5. Hereby is attained the made of for example iron or other comparatively. cheap material, whereas the head, curtain is fixed up, is visible and forms a decorative part of the device, may be made of other more expensive material, such as brass, or the like.
The esthetic requirements are thus very well provided for by this arrangement without its being necessary for the entire suppprt to-be made of such expensive material. he part 7 is also made of the same material as the part 6. By the locking device 9 is at, tained the advantage that the part 7 can be locked to the part 6 in such a manner that joints between the parts in question, which spoil the appearance, are obviated. It should be obviousthat the support 2 can be made also in the other Ways than thatshoWn here by Way of example.
Having thus described my invention, Ideclare, that What I claim is:
1. A device for supporting curtain rods,
comprising a supporting member, a semicircular rod-carrying member inclosing "a portion of said supporting member and secured thereto, and a corresponding semi-circular member hinged to said rod-carrying member and cooperating therewith to form a ring. 7
2. A device for carrying curtain rods and said rod-carry to lock the same to the rod-v
