NACE M. CLARK AND CHARLES E. HUBBACK, OF SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA.
CANDY-CUTTER.
VSpecification of Letters Patent.
Application led December 1, 1919. Serial No. 341,737.
To aZZ wlw/m t may concern.'
Y thereof with the several parts Be it known that we, NACE M. CLARK and CHARLES E. HUBBACK, citizens of the United States, and residents of Santa Clara, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Candy-Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a device for cutting strips of soft candy into parts, and it is the object of our invention to providey a device of the character indicated that will quickly and accurately cut strips of plastic material into small parts of equal size, and
quickly and easily detach such of said parts as may adhere to the cutting blades. Further objects of'our invention are to provide a device of the character indicated that will be light in weight, of few parts, easily manipulated and cleaned, and highly efficient in its practical application.
In the drawing:
Figure l is an end elevation of our improved candy cutter. Y
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the device in a plane parallel to the end thereof with the several parts in closed relation to each other.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the device in a plane parallel to the end in open relation to each other.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the under side of the stripper member.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the under side of the cutter member.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, 1 indicates a base or table member having a back member y2 rigidly mounted v thereon, the latter having a rabbetV 3 formed in the front upper portion thereof and extending the full length thereof.
At 4 is shown the cutter member mounted on back 2 by means of hinges 5 and provided with a suitable handle 6 attached to the upper surface thereof. The lower surface or member 4 is provided with a rabbet 7 on its outer edge and extending entirely around the same. The under surface of member 4 .is fitted with al plurality of equally spaced and parallelly arranged blades 8 of sufficient width to just reach the surface of table 1 Ywhen member 4V is placed in a horizontal position as shown 1'n Figs. 1 and 2.
a rabbet 7 in member 4 and connected to Asaid member by means of hinges 10, the
said hinges 10 being positioned on the edge thereof adjacent the hinges 5. F rame 9 is providedwith a plurality of platesll, on its under side, parallelly disposed with relation to each other and positioned crosswise of frame 9 and spaced a distance apart to permit the passage of blades 8 therebetween. knob or handle 12. y
In operation, a suitably sized mass of fondant may be rolled into a strip of desired circumference and rolled back into the position shown at 13 whereupon member 4 is brought down, the blades passing through the spaces between plates 11 and severing the said strip into many parts of equal length. The method of hinging theV several members is such that when this op` eration is performed the frame 9 is automatically seated in rabbetk 7 in member 4,
yand the two members 4 and 9 are also between plates 11, this operation effectively removing any'parts of the candy that may have adhered thereto;
It may now be seen' that we have. provided a cutter that is extremely compact in form, can be readily and quickly manipulated, especially in conjunction with the formingl table 1, and satisfactorily meets the requirements for which it is designed.
It is understood, of course, that changes of form, construction and method of opera- Patented Oct. 19, 1920.
Frame 9 is also provided with a tion may be made within the scope of the Y appended claim.
We claim:V
A candy cutter comprising -a cutting'table provided with a raised portion, said raised portion having a rabbet formed therein along the upper edge thereof, a member carrying a plurality of blades hingedly mounted on said raised portionin operative relation to said table and engaging said rabbet and having a continuous peripheral rabbet formed on its under side, and a stripper frame hingedly mounted on said blade carryingfmember andadapted to seat inthe rabbet formed therein and to engage the rabbet formed in said raised portion.
