Be it known that I, Emma E. PHINNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the countyofNew York and State of New York, have made a. certain new and useful Invention in Keyboard Clearing Means for Registers, of which the following is a'specification.

The invention has relation to ealculatin machines, 4and particularly to improve( means for releasing all repressed denominational keys at the end of the rotation ofthe operatin r shaft. Other objects and advantages wi l hereinafter appear.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts, as hereinafter set forth. Reference is made to aplicants co-pending application Serial umher 14219() for explanation of the parts of the machine not described herein.

To this end is providede. `slide 121, having usually in and slot connection 122 with the frame p ate 122 and provided with extensions 123, each extension designed, upon operation of said slide, for engagement with a spring-pressed bar 19, common to a denominational series of keys, and thereby releasing said bar from the shoulders 21 of the key stems, said keys being then returned to normal position by the s rings thereof.
Means are provide to move the slide 121 in one direction during the latter portion of. the rotation of the operating shaft in either direction, the preferred embodiment of said means being described as follows:
A lever 124 is fulcrumed intermediatel of its length, upon a pin 126 of the framing, said pin having a head 12T spaced apart from the lever, a. coiled s ring |28 surrounding said pin and hein ocated between the head thereof and said izever. One end of the lover is provided with a guide roller 129, engaging a vertical slot 130 of the frame plat:` 122 and an adjacent roller 131 designed, upon operation of the lever, for engagement with the cam-beveled end 121 of thel slide 12,1, to move the same in one direction to release the depressed keys as stated, said slide being then returned to normal position by the s rings 19 of bars 19.
Upon the siaft 14 is loosely mounted a finger 132 having a head the sides of which are beveled oppositely at 133, 133. The colla r of one of the. bevel gears 26 is provided 'with a pin 134. designed for engagement with the finger `132, (o turn the same therewith, said finger, at the end of the shaft rotation in either direction, having its bevel 133, 133 (according to the direction of rotation of the operating shaft) engaged with the beveled end 135 of the lever 124, and operating said lever to shift the slide as stated.
The lever 124 is capable of being moved horizontally from the work endV thereof, carrying the guide roller, as a fulcrum'or center, to cause the opposite orpower end of the lever to he moved to one side of the 1inger 132, so that said uger in its rotation with the operating shaft will have no action upon said lever, as is required in the pel'- formance of problems in multiplication and in division. This lateral or horizontal movement of the lever is accomplished by a rotary cam 136, having a flat side 137 normally f ently, to release all in Contact with one side of said lever, said earn in a quarter turn thereof, brought about by moving crank handle 138, having its eylindrical periphery 139 engaged with said lever, to move the same as stated.
