Description

w. B. Low.
Bindef's Stands and Tables for Harvesters.
No. 135,481. Patented Feb.4,1873.
Wdnessm 4 19104222513!-v WM iim UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
WILLIAM R. LOW, OF SANDWICH, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN BINDERS STANDS AND TABLES FOR HARVESTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,481,, dated February 4, 1873.
To all whom it nwty concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. Low, of
Sandwich, in the county of DeKalb and State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in Binders Stand and Table for Harvesters, of which the following is a specification:
1V ature of the Invention.
side to counterbalance the platform, causing the machine to be very wide, and resulting in great inconvenience in passing gateways and narrow places, as driving among trees; and the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of the several parts hereinafter fully explained.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a rear elevation of a harvester fitted with the improved table and stand; and Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of the table and stand.
Like letters of reference employed in the several figures indicate like parts.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to de-- scribe the same with particularity, making use in so doing of the aforesaid drawing by letters of reference thereto.
GencmlDescriptioa.
A is the frame-work of a harvestersnpporting the mechanism, and elevated above the drive or traction wheel. Bis the binders A at points 6 6 below the pivots d. This footboard is connected to the frame A also by diagonal jointed rods ff proceeding from the outer edge of the foot-board to the frame A at the points a a. The vertical rigid rods g 9, attached to the outer portion of the foot-board, extend up to the table B and support it in a horizontal position when the parts are at their lowest position.
When it is desired to pass through a gateway or narrow passage the table B is lifted up and thrown over until it passes the perpendicular line slightly, as shown in dotted lines at Fig. 1 of the drawing. In this position it will remain without being further secured. The-table B is pivoted to the frame A throughthe slots 0 0, so that a play is allowed to it in raising otherwise it would not permit of being thrown to the desired raised position.
It will be seen that by this construction not only the table B is thrown up out of the way, but also the foot-board E at one and the same time and motion, whereby the harvester is narrowed .at once to the width of the frame A and. platform; and that they may be as simply reinstated to their former position.
Claim.
Having thus fullyldescribed the construction and operation of my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The binders table B pivoted through slots 0 c to the frame A of a harvester, the footboard E pivoted to the frame A as at e c, the jointed rods ff, and the rigid vertical rods 9 9, all combined and arranged substantially as I IVILLIAM It. LOW.
. specified.
