PATENT OFFICE;
NOIS, ASSIGNOR 'lO ACME CARD SYSTEM A CORPORATION OF SOUTH DAKOTA.
CARD-PROTECTOR.
1,35%,616. Specification of To all whom izf mag concern e it known that I, FRANK H. JOHNSTON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in card indexes and refers more particularly to a transparent protector for index cards.
t has among its salient objects to provide a plurality of transparent card shaped protectors for the exposed portions of index cards; to provide a plurality of sheets of celluloid, pyrolin or like substance'suspended or, fitted to the index card holder, in any convenient manner, said protectors arranged to cover the exposed surfaces of the index cards; to provide a plurality of transparent, protecting members adapted to lie flat with the cards and made of materialthat is dithcult to tear and will withstand the constant usage given index cards; to provide protectors of. diiferent colors and so arranged that all of the exposed edges of the under cards are protected from wear and dirt at all times; to provide transparent protectors that occupy no more space in the holder than an index card and at the same time make the index cards more accessible than when using a single protector covering all of the cards; to provide a simple, inexpensive card protector which can be removed at any time and in general to provide a protector. of the character referred to.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of the index card holder with three colored protectors thereon. Fig. 2 is an edge View. of the index card holder shown in Fig. 1. i
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail showing means of suspending protector members.
eferring in detail to the drawings, 1 is a common type of index card holder having lateral channels 2 in which are set-ref silient wire hangers 3. To thesehangers are suspended index cards 4 by means of clips '5. The holders are in a horizontal position or swing vertically in a suitable stand (not shown) by means of pivot rods 6.

Serial No. 339,250.
The protector members 7 are similarly suspended to the wire hangers by means of clips 5 as are the index cards protectors are suspended upon the same wire hangers with one-of the index cards, thereby obviating h special hanger for the protector.
n Fig. 2 is shown-more clearly the man nor in which the protectors overlap to cover the exposed portions of the cards. By use of a plurality of protectors,
lated cards, which may be placed under the same color, or assist in showing more plainly the area covered by the respective protectors.
It is not my purpose to limit myself to the use of card protectors of this sort mounted on this type of holder for these protectors can cally the same purpose on system where overlapping used.
I claim as my invention:
In index card protectors, the combinawith an index card holder, of a plurality of overlapping transparent protector members covering exposed portions of the index cards.
2. In index card protectors, the combination with an index card holder, of a plurality of transparent protector members arranged at intervals between index cards, the lower end of said protector members elongated to cover exposed portions. of indexcards. w v
Inindex card protectors, the combination with an index card pra'cticall any index car. s are "portions of the index cards.
In index card protectors, the combination with an index card holder, of a plurality of card shaped transparent, vari-colored protector members arranged in overapping relation at intervals between the indexed cards and adapted to overlap to cover exposed portions of the index cards.
