Be it known that I, GUSTAV AUGUsT FAN- DREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cedar Rapids, in the county of Linn and State of owa have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Record-Cleaners for Sound-Reproducing Machines; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to record cleaners for sound producing machines, and it relates more spcciiically to an improved reproducer attachment for brushing. dust and other foreign matter from the record while the machine is in use.
One object of this invention is to provide an improved record brushing attachment for quickly and easily attaching to a Columbia graphophone or other sound reproducing machine without the necessity ofchanging or preparing the machine for receiving it.
Another object is to provide an attachment of this character which is adjustable to dii'lerent positions or different angles with respect to the reproducer and record.
A further object is to provide a device of this character with an improved attaching element which is formed of a single piece of light spring wire and can be manufactured at an exceedinglylow cost.
Other objects and advantages may become apparent to persons who read the following details of description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a front elevation of a graphophone reproducer having my improved record brushing device attached thereto, the record being indicated in section.
Fig. 2 is a View showing the reproducer and record in vertical section along the line 2-2 of Fig. l, my improved brushing attachment being illustrated in side elevation.

My improved attaching device comprises a length of spring wire formed with a brush holding end portion 7, reproducer-engaging elements 8 and 9, a bowed bar or spring 10 between the laterally extending loops or reproducer-engaging elements 8 and 9, and an Upward extension or manipulative element ll, the latter being preferably curved and terminating in an auxiliary reproducer-engaging element 12.
l'soreover, this invcntion comprises a brush which is formed of bristles or fibers 13 which are clamped between the adjacent surfaces of a brush-head 14-. This brush head is preferably formed of a sheet metal blank which is apertured at 15 and 16, and which is folded upon itseli along a line passing through the apertures 15 and 16. The end portion 7 of the wire or attaching element extends inwardthrough the aperuure 16, thene-e along the clamping plate or head 14 to and through the aperture 15, and its extreme end portion may be bent down upon the top edge or" the head 14 as shown at l iin Fig. 5. The part of the end portion 'Z between the apertures 15 and 16 may be slightly bowed downward, as indicated at 17 so that there can be no movement of the brusl r lative to the attaching element or spring wire.
It is to be understood that this device is designed for attachment to such reproducers as illustrated, in which the diaphragm is held in place by means of a rim or fiange such as indicated at 5' in Fig. 2, that the distance between the attaching elements 8 and 9 is slightly greater than the internal diameter of the fiange 5' when the device is detached, and that when the bowed spring or bar 10 is bowed to a greatcr extent than normally, the attaching elements 8 and 9 are brought sufiiciently close together to he seated against the inner surface of the flangc 5' as illustrated. It is also to be understood that the spring pressure of the hearing 10 holds the engaging elements 8 and 9 firmly against their seats within the rim 5, so that the brush is substantially stationary with relation to the reproducer and record. It is obvious that by pressing downward on the manipulative element ll, the device may be quickly and easily disengaged 'from the reproducer, and tlat it may be as quickly and easily replaced in the position shown or at stops to prevent the engaging elements 8 and 9 from being pushed into contact With the diaphragm and endangering the same. From the foregoing description, it Will be seen that this device is not only practical and convenient, but that it may be manufactured at a Very lOW cost. e
Although I have described this embodiment of my invention very specifically, it is not intended to limit this invention to the exact details of Construction and arrangement of parts, but changes may be made within the scope of the inventive idea as described and claimed herein.
l/Vhat I claim as my invention is:
l. In a record cleaner attachable to a reproduce'r of a sound reproducing machine a brush carrying attachment, a pair of reproducer-engaging elements, and a spring connecting said' reproducer-engaging elements and adapted to press them away from one another to a distance slightly greater than the internal diameter of the diaphragm-holding fiange of the reproducer, Whereby the said reproducer-engaging elements may have spring-pressed engagement With the internal surface of said fiange.
2; In a, record cleaner 'attachable to areproducer of a sound-reproducing machine, a brush-carrying attachment comprising a bowed spring bar formed With reproducerengaging elements adapted to be seated on a !arush-holding element, a pair or" laterally r extending attaching loops, a bowed spring portion between the attachin loops, and a manipulative loop, said attaching loo' ing disposed between said brush-helding element and manipulative loop, said brushholding element and manipulative loop also constituting stops to limit attachng movement of the attachment.
