To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J OHN STRAITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Driers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to improvements in clothes driers and pertains to that class in which there is a central post carrying a plurality of pivoted arms projecting from the central post and carrying at their outer ends end supporting posts. 7

The object of my invention is to provide a simple, cheap and effective clothes drier in which the central supporting post is provided with longitudinal ribs forming elongated longitudinal triangular spaces, where-- by the parts can be folded into close relation with the end supporting posts within the longitudinal triangular spaces.

In the accompanying drawing Figure l is a perspective view showing my improved clothes drier in its extended position.

Fig. 2 is a view showing my drier in a folded position.

Fig. 3 shows a slight modification in the construction of my improved drier.

Referring now to the drawings, my improved drier comprises a central support or standard A, which has at its lower end any suitable form of supporting base.

The central standard A has the four integral ribs 1, which extend at right-angles to each other, forming approximately a Maltese cross in cross-section. These ribs 1, extend from end'to end of the standard A.

Four upper swinging arms 2, have their inner ends respectively horizontally pivoted to the outer sides of the longitudinal ribs 1, at the points 3, and the pivotal points 8 of the arms 2 at the same horizontal plane.

A lower set of four swinging armst have their inner ends pivoted to the outer sides of the ribs 1, at the points 5, and the pivots 5 are in the same horizontal plane. The swinging arms 2 and 4: are arranged in pairs comprising one upper and one lower swinging arm, and the outer ends of each pair of swinging arms are pivoted to a supporting post 6 at the points 7.

in Fig. l, or folded, as shown in Fig. 2.

For the arms for collars and other small garments, I provide four short projecting swinging arms 8, at the upper end of the central supporting standard A. The inner ends of each of these short swinging arms 8 are pivoted as at 9, to the sides of the ribsl of the standard A. Vertical slots 10 are formed in the ends of the ribs 1. When the swinging arms 8 are extended, as shown in Fig. 1, they rest in the slots 10, and two of the slots are made deeper than the other two, so that the lower two arms 8 are below the two upper arms 8. When these arms 8, '8 are not extended they will and inward longitudinally in the upper ends of the spaces between the ribs 1.

In Fig. 3, I have shown a slight modification, which consists of extending the central supporting standard A a distance above the ends of the posts 6, when they are folded, equal to the length of the arms 8, 8', so that in this case the posts 6 will fold and lie flat within the space between the ribs '1, for in 1 this form the folded arms 8, 8do not interand the post 6 can be extended, as shown purpose of forming supporting fold downward folded into a very small space ofapproxi mately four inches in cross-section, which enables, when not in use, to be placed in an out-of-the-way location, such as a closet, cupboard, or behind doors, which will not obstruct the use of the room in which it is placed to be out of the way, as well as out of sight.

The construction is simple and strong, there being nothing about it that will get composed only of strips of wood and screw nails.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire tosecure by Letters Pat ent is 1. A clothes drier comprising a vertical supporting standardhaving integral longitudinal r'bs formed at rightangles to each other and forming elongated longitudinal triangular spaces, a plurality of vertical angular posts of a cross-sectional size to fit in said angular spaces, two horizontal arms for each post, the inner ends of the arms pivotother two, arms pivoted to the sides of the 10 ribs and adapted to swing into the slots to be supported in horizontal positions, and to swing downward into the spaces between the ribs.
